361: Patience

~And so I wait~

Some of you may remember that in 2014 I was scammedDuring December 2017  a newspaper article led me to apply for my money back

Here are the updates from the Western Union Remission website.

Update September 10, 2018. Over 180,000 petitions have been received in the Western Union remission process.  The claims administrator is currently reviewing and evaluating all submissions to determine eligibility.  If your petition is deficient, the administrator may contact you by mail to explain the deficiency and seek additional information.  After the petition review is complete, recommendations will be provided to the Department of Justice for final decisions.  Due to the large volume of petitions submitted, it is anticipated the petition review process will continue into 2019.  Payments cannot be issued until all petitions are reviewed

Update April 10, 2019.  Over 38,000 deficiency letters were mailed to petitioners in the United States on March 29, 2019.  One or more of the following deficiencies were identified on petitions filed by those who received a letter: 1) the petition was unsigned; 2) a taxpayer identification number, such as a social security number (SSN) was not provided; and/or 3) sufficient supporting proof or documentation for some or all of the claimed amount was not provided.

So, I have to patiently wait, either for a letter wanting more information, or, a letter containing a cheque.  I hope the latter.  I also hope that they don’t ask for me to send US$400 to Ghana before I receive the money.  I may get a bit suspicious, wouldn’t you ?

Tammy aka Bongo Bongo Banana the Nigerian scammer

Meanwhile, I’ll sit back and watch this lady deal with a scammer.

A couple of things I have learned about my being scammed.  Firstly, I should have listened to my friends who suspected Tammy was probably a fake, and, secondly,  KEEP OLD PAPERWORK.  I am so pleased that I did file the Western Union receipts and did not throw them out when I moved from Spain to Austria in 2017.

~1st anniversary~

On Wednesday, 24th April 2019, Natascha and I had been married for a year.  Awesome !

I went shopping for that special anniversary gift on the lower -3 level

I tried to find and ask Service for help in finding Floor -3.  Failed miserably !

Oh well, patience Natascha.  That special anniversary gift ?  Next year !

I’m in trouble now !

~Our patient cats~

Sonic and Samantha are on the balcony while Murli is finishing off cake crumbs.  All is quiet in the Whillier home.  Bliss !

How patient are you ?

Ralph xox ❤

  1. Jeep & Johnny are on my lap top! Is that what you mean?
Or do you mean when Jeep cleans her mouth on a high tech screen? I pick lower level -4.
Please give my prize to Natascha. Do not sent by Western Union. Western Onion is okay.
    Sending love to all!!! xoxoxoxo

    • Precisely dear Resa ! Jeep and Johnny require your total attention. I know as Samantha loves to chew my microphone stand creating a modern art sculpture and when she walks over my keyboard she always seems to hit Flight Mode, killing the Internet. 😦
Western Onion brings tears to my eyes when cooking the books 🤣
Love back from all of us. Ralph xox ❤

  3. Patience is really a virtue. Happy 1st Wedding anniversary to you both. Hope you had a special lovely day! Lucky your cats are so patient too. As for your scammed things… just wait and they will give you another email next year, saying to be patient. At least they wrote to you , that means they still have your details! 🙂

That is what we were thinking. This refund could take another couple of years, but, as you say, they do have my details and they have given me a reference number. We just have to wait to see what happens.

  8. Hi, Ralph.
Scams are bad enough, but your post is making me think of even worse things–those hackers who get into people’s computers, steal all their information and lock them out until they pay a hostage fee to get it back!
Can you imagine your great magnum opus stored only on your computer and it’s gone forever unless you hand over thousands of dollars to some computer pirates??!!!
The thought just makes the hair rise on the back of my neck.
Meantime…..all the luck in getting your $$ back. Hopefully sooner than later!

    • Hello Stacey 🙂
Thank you so much for visiting and making a thought provoking comment. What you say has brought back memories. A couple of years ago I was locked out of my laptop until I paid a ransom. It was quite scary, but after a bit of thought, I removed the battery, put it back in and restarted in Safe Mode. After virus cleaning my laptop was running as normal.
I reckon if I do get any money back it will be quite a few months on reading the update on their website. I will just have to wait.
Have a lovely week. Ralph xox ❤

  9. The computer scam is the one that caught my sister-in-law. She ended up paying over $2,000 to the scammers. It’s easy to get caught unless they can’t spell and their grammar is bad and they say that they are from the social security office. Sounds like you are both enjoying a wonderful marriage. I’m so happy for your both. Your cats look happy and well cared for as well. 🙂

    • I’m so sorry that your sister in law was scammed. It is so easy to be sucked in by them. Big hug. Ralph xox ❤

      • So easy! I have three checks totaling $900 sitting in a drawer that I’m supposed to cash in order to “send them back or some silly thing. I signed up to be a smart shopper, which a friend of mine used to do. It turned out to be a scam!!! They never followed up. 😂😂😂
