357: To The Vet

~Heck, not the vet !~

Over time, all three of our cats were showing signs which required visits to the vet.  Natascha will explain all in this post in her blog.

Murli grumbles, “I just HATE going to the vet”
Samantha squeaks, “Going to the vet TERRIFIES me”
Brave Sonic says, “I love going to the vet ‘cos as a wounded soldier I get a Purple Heart medal”

~GoPro movies~

A couple of weeks ago we decided that the tiny “GoPro Hero 7 White” camera would be a great present for Natascha’s birthday.  Perfect for her daily bike rides to the pharmacy. The results are so stable, no shaking at all !

Natascha carried Murli to the vet by taxi and tram, Sonic both ways by taxi.  Both cats were as quiet as mice.  Samantha was a different kettle of fish, noisy, and as the day was lovely for February, Natascha decided a bike ride was the way to go.

Sonic is hiding under the blanket in The Carrier

You are welcome to ride along with Natascha and Samantha through Graz in Austria.  (The GoPro is clamped on the handlebar and, sorry, the bike brake cable is in the foreground of this video.)

How many meows in the video ?  No prize, but heck, you must be really bored at work to count them !

What do you think Samantha is saying.  Have a go at the Poll.

Do you have a travelling to the vet story ?

Ralph xox ❤

All credit must go to Natascha, not only for the photographs and GoPro videos, but her unwavering love, care and attention towards all pussycats.

  1. Had to transport one of my babies in a cardboard box, being held by a friend, as he refused to allow me to place him in his carrier. God Rest his soul, that was his last trip anywhere… ❤

  2. I know what means this, and how difficult to have cat more than one!!!! I am glad to hear that your cats are fine, and get well for this owner of the uncountable meows… It was amazing travel, I felt as if my heart will stop… Thank you, Blessing and Happiness to you all, Love, nia

    • When reading your blog dear Nia, I know that you love cats as every second post has a photograph of at least one cat. All of our three cats should be fine after a course of treatment. We are pleased that you enjoyed the bike ride, not to worry as Natascha has rode a bike in Graz for most of her life and is very safe. Love and hugs. Ralph xox ❤

  3. Samantha has the cutest saddest of meows! 😀 I like the novelty of a bike transport to the vet and a very pretty and quiet route and Natascha is very soothing all the way! Both my cats hated the carrier with a vengeance… just managed to get one in a cardboard box which he promptly escaped from in the car en route! Havoc ensued and must have looked like something out of a madcap movie before control was regained! After that we nursed his wounds etc at home!

Oh no ! An escaped panicking cat In the car must have been a real problem for you dear Annika. I am sure that the cat would have gone if you opened the car door. What a kerfuffle !

    • Luckily, nothing major, but lots of little things that add up. All three cats have different diets, different medications, but only require a couple of visits to the vet so far.
Natascha says thank you dear Leslie. She loves cats and will do anything for them. She was worried that the cats would hate her after the visits, but they still love her to bits.
I hope you are having a wonderful Sunday my friend. Ralph xox ❤

  6. Poor Samantha! But my, what a lovely day you had!

I used to have two cats named Arthur and Merlin (they were sisters) and one day I had to take Arthur to the vet because she was running a fever. She was so upset that she was growling. Poor kitty! She recovered nicely though. I unfortunately had to find them a new home (and did very successfully) when my M developed a severe allergy to them. I really missed them for a long time.

    • Yes, it was a lovely day, especially in February, for Natascha to take Samantha on her bike. Samantha has always constantly meowed when travelling.
Heehee, Why did you call the sisters Aurthur and Merlin, dear Lynette ? The mind boggles 😉 Yes, poor kitty having a fever and I am so sorry to read that you had to rehome them. I hope they are happy and well in their new environment. Yes, you must have missed them tremendously.

      • The young daughter of a friend chose their names – one was a grey tabby and the other was completely black – and she was very much into King Arthur at the time. She thought the names were so good that I went along with it. The kitties didn’t seem to mind. 🙂

Yes, my M really has developed a serious allergy and it was a sad day when I had to let them go. They have a good second home though.

    • Yes, I saw your comment on Natascha’s post dear Ute. The video of her bike ride with Samantha was lovely, wasn’t it ? Samantha didn’t stop meowing. I agree, the camera is fantastic on a bike. It’s even good at night. We are so happy that the vet has found the problems with the cats, mainly from lab tests and hopefully they are on their way to recovery.
Have a lovely week my friend. Love Ralph and Natascha 🙂 ❤

It was great to see the city as she rode through it and oh dear, I know that sound, the desperate “miaow”, which makes you want to cry. Have a great week both of you and the cats. xxx

  13. I remember when still living with my parents and all their cats, every trip to the vet required hours of chasing the little furry friends to get them into their carrier🙄

    Liked by 2 people

    • Heehee, I know exactly what you must have went through in cat chasing. I should have listened to Natascha when trying to catch Sonic for his flight from Spain to Austria. Throw a towel or blanket over him, she suggested. I forgot !
Have a lovely weekend dear friend. Ralph xox ❤

      • You too dear😀
I use the blanket trick once but the cat rolled in it and panicked because she had nearly suffocated and I nearly had my arm amputated trying to free her,but truth tO be told that was a particularly nasty creature🤪

  14. Are vets as expensive as they are in the UK or do you get lower cost plans with so many cats? I daren’t cycle in London what a nice cycle route though. Glad to hear they’re on the mend.

    Liked by 3 people

    • Hey Charlotte! I have no idea how expensive the Vets are in the UK. I only heard about the US and that it’s crazy expensive there. I think it’s actually not too bad with our Vet here.

Usually I only pay the medication that they are given. It’s only with bigger things like spaying and neutering that I remember paying for the surgery. And it was below 100€ for Murli back then, I think 80€ if I remember correctly. And I payed for the Vets work on Wednesday, where Murli got her teeth sorted out plus the medications.

The most expensive meds are Murlis Thyroid meds, which are 0,90€ per tablet. Other meds are usually only a few cents per tablet. The Thyroid meds cost exactly the same in the UK, I looked it up. No idea why they are so much more expensive than anything else.

No reduced rates at the Vets as far as I know.
There are only insurance plans for cats with insurance companies. I looked into them, but unfortunately, you’d have to get the cats signed up when they are young. It would be really worth it if we would have that kind of insurance for them. I’d do it if I have another young cat.

Yes I’m quite lucky here with cycling, because the city has bicycle lanes everywhere. It’s easy to get anywhere safely with a bicycle and it’s fun too.
I do understand you though, I would not dare cycling in a city like Vienna either for example. Not enough bicycle lanes and you’d have to cycle on the busy streets most of the time. I guess London is quite similar.

Oh dear, what a long comment lol!

We all wish you a wonderful weekend! Love, Natascha, Ralph and the cats ❤

  15. Aw! What cutie pies!! Cats definitely have a mind of their own when it comes to travel 🙂 I hope all the precious kiddos are doing well now?

    Liked by 3 people

    • Hi Holly! Thank you!! The kitties say thank you as well 😺😸😽 Murli is doing fine now, Samantha is doing lots better, and with Sonic it will take a bit longer. He’s a happy cat boy and not unwell, but his auto immune disease makes his eyes and nose run, and causes some skin issues. Non of it hurts, but the sniffles are a bit uncomfortable probably. He’s on a month long treatment with tablets that help his immune system, after that he’ll probably get something else for long term.

The cats enjoy that the spring seems to warm up finally and love to hang out in the sun on the balcony.

I also just found your blog too, and it’s great!
      Have a lovely Sunday!

      • Aw! Thank you for the update on the kiddos! I am very familiar with what you speak of with Sonic. My baby had an autoimmune disorder as well that required regular treatment. They can still live and love life! 😉

I am so thankful you have come by my blog as well and look forward to hearing your thoughts! Have a beautiful & blessed Sunday dear ❤ Hugs to your kitties!
