Breakfast With Katrina

Most bloggers publish posts and that’s it.  Whereas some of us become internet friends over time.  We email each other, learn about things not mentioned on posts, meet up in real life and even send presents to each other.

Thanks Sonic.  I love you too !

One such recent present was a lovely signed photograph from Katrina.

Yes Samantha.

Katrina is a young actress in New York and is working hard on hitting the big time.  She excels in video, films, TV shows and theatre plus speaking in many dialects.  She’s got talent and also holds down a “proper” job until becoming a full time actress.

One thing we both agree on is that one day we will have a breakfast together in real life and we constantly remind each other of that.

I wanted to send a gift back to Katrina.  But what ?

I could have bought something on Amazingzon, but I wanted to give her something special and personal.  Then I remembered my local friend Jim …..

….. who painted all the wall pictures in my apartment.

Over a few days, working on my design and photos I sent him, Jim sent me this draft cartoon for my approval.

Fantastic, isn’t it ?  Breakfast together while I’m living in the mountains of southern Spain and Katrina is in New York

A week or so later Jim brought the finished piece around to my apartment.

Eventually the parcel arrived in New York from Spain.  Katrina was so happy and wrote >>>

“I LOVE IT I LOVE IT I LOOOOVVVE IT! thank you for the consideration on the frame also, friend. How lovely! I will hang it by my desk as soon as it is framed

The ladies at work were quite excited, as was I, to take part in the fun and one laughed loudly at the cartoon and said that was exactly what my big smile looks like! One of the women wishes for a pen pal in a far away land now, too.”

The cartoon is now prominently displayed in its new home in New York.

Three people are thrilled with the present;  Katrina, Jim and myself.

Katrina loves the cartoon and had it mounted in a golden frame;  the colour reminding her of the first Oscar she will get one day.  Jim, who is happy to see where his work has ended up. And finally myself, who has given a personal gift to a special internet friend and in doing so has helped a local artist.

Amazingzon could never do that !

No,  you can’t Sonic.

SONIC  !!!   And get off of my laptop Samantha.

What I have to put up with !  Oh boy !

Are in touch with blogging friends ?

Ralph xox ❤

Thanks to everyone who have sent me presents.  I do treasure every one of them as well as your friendship.  Big hug ❤

  2. Oh, what a perfect gift you sent to Katrina. Jim has buckets of talent, hasn’t he?

I hope you do get to have breakfast with Katrina one day. Maybe she’ll invite you to the Academy Awards ceremony? You can be her escort on the red carpet.

    Cheers, chappie. oxo 🙂 ❤

    • I was very nervous in how Katrina would react after so many weeks of work and in the post, but it turned out well didn’t it Yvonne ? And, yes, Jim is a very talented artist as he does paintings of people and pets as well as what’s shown in this post.
I would love to walk the red carpet with Katrina. That would be the best excuse ever for having breakfast with her.
Big hug and take care my friend. Ralph xox ❤

There are some that I keep in touch with off of here via email. Most of those are outside of the US or I would likely have already met them too 🙂

    • Hi Ute.
Jim has seen this post and emailed me saying, “Hi Ralph. Looks like we could all end up famous thanks to you. Jim”. I am sure that he must have loved your comment and other commenters as well.
Heck, it was so long ago I had almost forgotten your dance with James. That brought back memories 😀
I do remember your visit though. We did so much and it was lovely having you here. And, thank YOU for all your wonderful presents.
Have a lovely week. Ralph xox ❤

  10. How sweet it is! Ralph, the painting/cartoon is absolutely lovely. I have no doubt the beautiful Katrina will find a successful future in the Biz.
Your friend Jim is very talented! Will he be doing a portrait of the cats?
Sending you much love! _Resa xoxo ❤ <#
Oh, Jeep & Johnny send a rousing meowrr to Sonic & Samantha. I'm sure it's a secret cat code! 🙂 🙂

    • Thank you my dear friend for such a wonderful comment. Jim IS really talented. He illustrated a book on kingfishers at one time. No, he won’t be painting my cats as I see enough of them everyday and I would have to be on my best behaviour if they look down on me from the wall 😉
Katrina is also SO talented. She just needs that big break, someone like Orson Welles to take her on (shows how update I am). I believe that will happen.
Sonic & Samantha say hi to Jeep and Johnny and they love their French Canadian accent. MEOWRR ! 😀
Love & hugs back dear Resa. Ralph xoxox ❤ #<

    • Thanks Jules. Jim does have talent, so has Katrina. I am surrounded by talent ! Ralph xox ❤

  12. You picked the perfect gift for Katrina, Ralph, and I’m glad you all loved it. The cartoon of you is a very good likeness – Jim’s a talented artist. I’ve made a few lovely friends on WP who I keep in touch with by email and have arranged to meet up with one day (pennies permitting) It’s bank Holiday Monday here, so we’ve had yet another typical rainy day. Much love to your lovely ‘Minders’. Sonic and Samantha are treasures. 😀

    • Thank you for your lovely comment Millie. I am glad as well that we all loved the cartoon. I really do hope that you will meet up with your WP friends. Sorry your Bank Holiday was another washout. We don’t have Bank Holidays here in Spain just countless Saints and Andalucia days plus all of August. S&S send their love back as I do. Ralph xox ❤

      • If we ever come to Andalucia again, we might just give you a ring! We were on a guided tour in May, so no time to go anywhere but the set route – which is what I needed for my research at the time. Take care. 😀

  21. Wow! Katrina does so much, there is no doubt that she will win an Oscar and be huger than big. She has the belief, skills and determination to be successful, in an enormous way. And Jim, well he is so incredible. What talent. I love the vibrant and warm colours he uses. I have a favourite local artist, whose work use to be in a big chain of stores called Athena – the Exeter one closed and not sure if the company has completely closed – I should Google that to double check! A few of his paintings prints adorn my flat. Picasso is my favourite artist – Cubism period – I studied that for GCSE at school.

    • I totally agree with you Sandra. Both Katrina and Jim are very talented and it’s a pleasure to know both of them. It’s great that you support a local artist and it’s a shame the store has closed. Take care my friend. Ralph xox ❤

      • Hi Ralph, yeah! Thanks. Thankfully I saw him at the Devon County Show this year, which is a local show in Exeter and bought another small canvas and print. He paints animal caricatures. They are colourful and you notice things you don’t see upon initial inspection. Very vibrant and colourful – just like me! Ha!
