Head Banger

Most of you with laptops, desktop PCs & Windows have experienced this !

2am.  I switched off my laptop.  Oh no.  A Microsoft update !

1 of 18 !  10 minutes later 2 of 18 ! ……  Zzzz

Morning !  I woke up (I do that sometimes).  Switched on my laptop.  Made a coffee.  Brought the cup back to the desk and …….

…….Windows 7 wouldn’t load.  Seized !

After 1/2 hour of troubleshooting and retrying I had a “Yay!” moment, I was in !

Then I opened my Outlook to see what emails came in overnight.  No Internet !

So down I went, under my desk.  Cutting power to the gizmos, wiggling cables …….

….. nothing !   No change !   Then I banged my head getting up !

I didn’t do what this guy did.   Shoot the laptop !

Click for full story

And it wasn’t a bird on my antenna.

One last thing to try.  System Restore.  Yay, I am online !

Bye, bye Microsoft update.

I helped Toni, my neighbour, who was cleaning my apartment, to move the sofa to extract the countless cats’ toys which they had patted underneath. (Sorry about the cat moment then.)

The ceiling light was ready to attack me !

“Got ‘im !” swung the light !

“Heehee !” laughed the sofa.

It was at this point I gave up helping Toni.

Well, Toni, who is knee high to a grasshopper, didn’t know what the fuss was all about !

The final results:

Laptop & Internet 3  ………………. Ralph 0

Ceiling light 3 ………. Ralph 0

Are you a sore loser ?

I was.   Well, my head was.

    • I am sorry that I am so long in replying Teela. As soon as I published this post I shut down as I had to get up early this morning to go shopping, bank etc. Still, I am here now.

Yes. What a day ! I haven’t heard the word noggin for years. Great you brought it up my friend.

I do hope you are okay and will have a good week. Ralph xox ❤

    • Someone commented that there were too many cat posts, so I thought I would have a change Leslie. Maybe they kept out of the way with all the head banging going on. Ralph xox ❤

      • It probably was me who complained, but I was only joking. You better stop that head banging it won’t sort out your computer. I know I tried that one too.

      • I’m new to your blog, so don’t know about past posts, but can there be too many cat posts? I would think not. 🙂

p.s. Thanks for stopping by Evolution Made Easier and leaving a couple of likes. I always appreciate when someone does that, plus it helps lead me to what they’re up to, like this interesting blog and entertaining post of yours. Thanks for making me smile; I could totally relate to some of the stuff that happened.

Hi Zipppy (love your nickname) welcome to my blog. My cats try to take over the posts. Maybe I should let them as they are so popular.
ps. You are welcome. I’ll be back ! And thank you for your lovely comment. Ralph xox ❤

  1. I feel for you Ralph! My updates just completed their updating, that is why I am still up at 1:26 am!!!! At least my lights can’t attack me – I am not tall enough. Hope you do not have any eggs growing on your head from all the bumping now ❤ xx

    • It always seems to happen when one wants to shut down quickly. I think Microsoft knows this and create the longest updates ever ! You are so lucky to be short Daleen. My head is always attracted to anything low. No. No eggs. Just dents in high places in my apartment. Hugs for you my friend. Ralph xox ❤

  2. I could walk under the ceiling light without a problem…but oh those computer problems! I go into a panic when things stop working. My entire creative life resides in that little box. Not to mention the time. Glad you got it working:)

    • Lucky you Diana ! Normally there is no problem with the lights as I have a table or chair underneath so I have to walk around, but this day ! Oh boy !
I totally understand why you can panic when the computer plays up. I hope it doesn’t happen too often. Ralph xox ❤

  3. Oh Yes, I have those computer behaviors. I like frequent updates and mandatory updates. I understand the benefits they could be. It is always nerve racking for window upgrade and if you want to quickly shut it down then that can be a bad experience. I wish they could let you postpone that for few times first.

    • I totally agree and have experienced everything you have said here YC. Sometimes I wish Microsoft would get its act together and is more customer friendly. Ralph 😀

I have the same light, fan, whatever’s hanging issues too!

    • Yes. I found you first Melinda ! Oh dear. I hope you don’t bang your head too often. Ralph xox ❤

True. So maybe the helmet is not such a good idea. I am thick anyway 😉 Ralph xox ❤

  8. I share your feelings completely about computers. In our village the internet is more often off than on. As for accident-prone days, I have them all the time, too. “Keep Calm and Drink Tea” – or anything else that helps. Play with your lovely cats – wherever the’ve got to this week. (Keeping out of your way, no doubt, while you’re walking into everything?)
We fly down to your area on Thursday, so I hope the weather is good. I need some sun! We’re on a tour, this time, to visit lots of Moorish sites, so every day is choc-a-bloc full as we travel from town to town. I think we have three days in Seville and hear out from there each day.All this is in aid of my research for my book.
Sorry, Ralf. I’ve waffled on too long here. Funny post and great pics. Go and rest your aching head and take care today. 🙂

  17. Thank you for liking “Wildflowers” and “More Wildflowers.” I told you about my computer woes earlier this year, so you know that I can relate to your computer problems. System Restore was also the way I got my computer to run normally again. I am still fearful of those Windows Updates. I tried to reset my computer so that it won’t automatically update, but it did not work. When I see that update icon on the Shut Down button, I restart the computer instead of shutting down. There is a brief window of time when the update icon won’t appear on the Shut Down button, and during this time I hit the Shut Down button so that my computer will close without automatically updating. Doing this is a pain, but at least my computer is not freezing up.

However, I am not sure what advice to give you about how to avoid being attacked by the ceiling light. Perhaps you can do some of those dodging maneuvers boxers use to avoid blows from their opponents. 🙂

  21. Dear friend Ralph,

I’ve made peace with the fact that the computers ALWAYS win. So do light fixtures.

It does help if you yell and scream at the computer. Well, it doesn’t really help, but it makes me feel better. 🙂

  22. What are you still doing up at this hour Ralph? It’s past your bedtime. Or what time is bedtime? Well, I guess living with two cats makes you nocturnal.

Good night my dear friend! Pleasant dreams!

    • I really don’t know why I stay up so late Carmen. It’s probably due to lots of things. I live on my own, so no family issues. I receive my evening meal at 10pm. I did stay in California for a few months in 1986, so I may still be suffering from jet lag 😉 And it’s quiet during the early hours. There are many bloggers who are night owls usually due to pain, work or just love the early hours. It’s 11pm here now, so another 3 hours or so before I go to bed.
Thank you for wishing me a good night dear friend. I hope you sleep well too.

  24. I think you took a picture of my computer wires under my desk! I bang up my body so much on a regular basis that I forget where the black and blue marks come from! When I went to the hospital for my pneumonia diagnosis, the Doctor eye balled the Princess and gave her a strange look when I told her that I couldn’t remember where all the bruises came from! I thought it was funny. The Princess not so much!😄

    • Hello Bev and welcome to my blog. It IS frustrating not being able to switch on or accessing the internet normally.

On switching on the laptop / PC and Windows locks up. Switch off, then back on and you are given a choice, normal or trouble shoot. Select trouble shoot and some times you are asked if you want to restore. Click yes.

System Restore (Windows 7) can be found in:
“Start / Control Panel / System and Security / Action / Restore your computer to an earlier time”

Have a problem free weekend Bev. Ralph xox ❤

      • Thanks for the detailed information. I appreciate that. Glad to have made your acquaintance via the internet.
