Ralph’s Medical Twilight Zone

For the last couple of weeks I have been a nervous wreck waiting to be given the dreaded aggressive drip with the possible side effect of turning me into an Aggressive Drip !

It never happened !

Last Thursday I entered the medical twilight zone.

(Play Twilight Zone Intro)

I waited an hour in the chair.

Ronda hospital
'tis me !
’tis me !

An hour of just wasting time thinking about things.

Suddenly out of nowhere !

I sat INTIMIDATED listening intently to the change in plans.

My Neurologist was going to get it right ……

…..by sending me though a battery of tests that morning before being aggressive with me another day in the future, hopefully to cure my CIDP Lewis Sumner with Rituximab.

OMG ! “,  I thought.

She explained what was going to happen to me and with a swirl of her white coat ……

My Neurologist
My Neurologist

…. disappeared back into her twilight zone world of Ronda hospital, Spain.

  Then I waited !

Suddenly out of nowhere !

A nurse appeared, tore open my shirt and rammed a thermometer up my armpit !

I was so pleased that it was nowhere else !

Then I waited.

Suddenly out of nowhere !

The same nurse appeared, dragged me out of the chair and across the room to a weighing scales / height measure combo.

I didn’t realise how tiny she was until she couldn’t reach the slider on the height measure.

w16 (2)

She found a step …….

…… stood on it, but still couldn’t reach the slider until another nurse arrived and lifted her up.

I sat back in my chair ……. exhausted with laughter !

Then I waited !

Suddenly out of nowhere !

A nurse pushing a wheelchair crashed in through the double swing doors my Neurologist went out through. The wheelchair skidded to a halt. I was dumped into the seat. The now Ferrari  swung around and sped off, crashing back out through the swing doors ……..

………. coming to a screeching halt by the lift.

There we waited !

Suddenly out of nowhere !

Another doctor appeared by the lift carrying a syringe ! ……..

…… and in the bustling corridor she rolled up my sleeve, pumped in some liquid just under the skin and drew yellow lines around the little bulge.

She explained that on Sunday I was to go to Emergency, near my local village, in Cortes de la Frontera. If that point on my arm turned red I was to come straight back to Ronda hospital Monday morning. If no reaction, then the doctor in Emergency will write a report on my computer file.

The nurse then proceeded on her mission to frighten the living daylights out of me.

Speeding down corridors, a two wheel turn through the open doors of the Xray dept.

I almost had whiplash when she braked !

I hadn’t a clue what was going on !

All these experiences were making me batty !

Within seconds the Xray technicians took front and side photos of my chest.

I reckon this photo of me came out well !

Then I waited !

Suddenly out of nowhere !

The nurse returned with the wheelchair ……

….. scooped me up and raced back to my drip chair scattering aside patients, doctors and nurses along the corridors.

Then I waited !

Suddenly out of nowhere !

Another nurse appeared laden with syringe, tubes, bandages and proceeded to extract an armful of blood from me !

Then I waited !

I sat for an hour in the drip chair just thinking about things.

Suddenly out of nowhere !

A nurse appeared, gave me a copy of the report of what happened that morning and I was free to go.

Ralph’s medical twilight zone was over.

Seriously, everyone was so brilliant, fast and professional, especially Angela, my Neurologist, who organised the tests. Thank you 😀

I was so pleased to be back home where I found my cats wrapped around the heater as they have been doing for the last couple of weeks.

72 hours later ! Sunday morning ! Emergency in Cortes de la Frontera !

Yep ! The red mark is positive !

So back to Ronda hospital this morning !

Back to Ralph’s Medical Twilight Zone. Oh boy !

So, how does your Twilight Zone go ?

(On reading some of your posts, any Twilight Zone is normal for you 😉 )

    • So, so true my dear Belinda. Laughter is a good healer.
I mean, Sunday morning in Emergency (it’s Monday here now) the female paramedic gave me an ECG, cables everywhere. “Are you Googling me ?”, I asked !
I really do hope you have a GOOD week my dear friend.
Lots of hugs. Ralph xoxox ❤

    • How can I separate the two JF ? If I was to have a Close Encounter Of The Female Kind she would have a damn good laugh ! 😉 Oh boy !

  2. There were so many hospital personnel who came out of nowhere (I hope they were ligit) to test or to treat you. I would be concerned if I were in the same situation. I hope now you got to know those nurses now for the next twilight zone time 🙂

    • The hospital personnel seem to lull you to sleep and then pounce ! I am sure they were legit YC. Well I hope so ! Or was I in a series of the Twilight Zone ? 😉 I’m getting to know a lot of nurses, one even wanted to be my beneficiary if I keel over, she said with a syringe in her hand 😉

    • I am sure that you are right Kat in saying that you’ve been there. This is all new to me as I was perfectly healthy until I retired. Don’t retire ! 😉 Ralph xox ❤

  3. Darling Ralph,
I’m trying not to be angry w/ Rhonda. I don’t like the way she keeps luring you back with her evil ways. You’ve got enough to deal with.
She better hope she doesn’t bump into me behind the bike shed!
    I’m glad you’re okay now.

    • Thanks Leslie. All I have to show for over a year and a half of this is a bag full of opened (mainly unused) tablets in my bathroom cabinet. I am beginning to think that I am the English lab rat to the Spanish medics. More cheddar cheese please my friend ! 😉 Ralph xox ❤

    • KATIE !!!!! May I come out from behind the sofa now ? I’m shaking ! Oh, that’s normal for me 😉 Ralph xox ❤

      Liked by 1 person

      • Quite the opposite my friend ! Behind the sofa I was sitting on rats, mice and things that go bump-in-the-night. Oh sorry, they are the cats’ fluffy toys 😉
That’s okay. No need to apologise. Try grovelling next time 😉 heehee.

  5. Glad to see you still have your sense of humour intact, Ralph. I wish these medical people didn’t need to do so many tests to figure out what ‘s wrong. Why can’t Rhonda just wave a magic wand? 😕

    • Grazie mille Stella. Spero che si stanno avendo una bella settimana e sta godendo la vita in pienezza. Abbracci. Ralph xox ❤

    • It is good material isn’t it ? I am sure that someone up there is following my blog and keeps giving me things to write about. Thank you whoever you are !

Red ? It seems there is a set procedure to go through to give me the right amount of this new drip. Weight and height. Also my tolerance to disease and whether I have something nasty at the moment. This drip will seriously effect my immune system, knock it way down, so the diameter of the red is measured. For me 15mm Sunday and 8mm today. The Sunday measurement goes into the formula to calculate the amount that will be put into me. I hope my Neurologist maths is good 😀

  6. What a day….. hope it will go ok once back in Ronda. Glad you always make fun and and have a laugh there too. The only way to be! Bet the nurses love you too! All the best Ralph!

    • Yes ! What a day ! It took me ages to find the Consulta de Preventiva in the hospital to show them the red mark on my arm. I pressed the 2nd floor on the lift which terminated on the 1st floor. So I spent ages looking for the room on the wrong floor. Eventually the red mark was inspected, half the size of when it was measured on Sunday. Nothing was wrong. The red mark was just a guide to see if my immune system was working. Whew ! A relief ! Then I was told to go straight away to the Neurologist and report the findings. My Neurologist was on her day off. The other Neurologist’s nurse in a very crowded corridor said can’t I read and I must go to the Consulta de Preventiva to get the red mark checked even though I told her that I had just come from there. Duh ! In the end I gave up, said okay and came home ! What fun ! Ralph xox ❤

      • Even funnier today ! This morning a neighbour 3 doors away had a phone call from the local doctor who asked him to come round to my house to tell me to get down to the Tuesday clinic in the village immediately ! Why the doc phoned him I don’t know ! I got there, saw the doc straight away, who told me to go back to get the drip I should have had last Thursday, this Thursday morning. So I’m a bag of nerves now ! Oh boy ! ❤

  7. Hope things will be well soon! I am smiling when reading your funny post – glad that you saw things in lighter mood – best wishes and hugs xoxo Indah

  10. About this male brain figure, wonder why there’s no connection between those two (sure there’re only two..?) sex areas and the remute control center – I thought that they cooperated when we men are looking for the naughty TV channels… :-/

    Good luck, champ… 🙂

I finally wrote a new post, MFR. I pulled a Ralphie, and used all Google pics. So much easier. 🙂 – Well except for making the award. That took some time. 🙂

  12. Thank you “Star Trails” and “Brocken Spectres.” I am glad that you have a good sense of humor to help you through these dreadful hospital treatments and visits. It is hard to live with the uncertainty of what will happen next. My dad had a lot of lab work and some ultrasounds before Christmas, and we are going to find out the results of all these tests this week. I do not think anything is seriously wrong with him because the hospital did not call him back right away. However, we are not sure.

    • You are very welcome. I enjoyed your work Arlene. I really do hope that the end result of all those tests on your Dad is something minor and easily treatable. Let’s think positive ! Hugs. Ralph xox ❤

Thanks for sharing in my good news about my dad. I am sorry I was not able to respond sooner. My computer monitor stopped working on Thursday, and I was not able to get and install a replacement until later today.

        Take care!

      • Thanks I did enjoy it! And thanks for pointing out where I missed the explanation! My inner stupid person wishes that I could take the drip FOR you, cause I am fretting. Very anxious of late, piling more onto the fret pile. Isn’t it odd (crazy)how that cycle works! Maybe I ought to play Whack A Mole with anxiety thoughts!

  14. Through it all, you never lose your sense of humour Ralph–your mind perhaps, but not your humour! Where do you find all these funny images? Especially the third one–no wait, that’s YOU! I mean the human bowling pins on the beach – ha ha!

My fav part – listening to Twilight zone! Brings back memories of my childhood being scared half to death when my dad was watching it every week.

Seriously, you are very patient, I guess that’s why they call them patients. 🙂
