This Is Weighing On My Mind

Yesterday, my neighbour Toni went to Ronda hospital, Spain, to have a regular check-up of herself and the baby boy within her.

(While there, she had a word with reception to find out why my Neurologist had not made a recent appointment for me. Last night Toni gave me a paper with a date and time on it for mid November.Β  So my pretty young Neurologist IS still talking to me after I missed visiting her in July !)

Toni also told me that everything is great with her and the baby. The boy is now weighing 1 kilogram. 2 months to go !

After Toni left my apartment I had a sudden thought ! How in the dickens do they know the weight of the baby ? I mean, a lot of things are easy to weigh ……..

…….. unless you are a blonde then things become difficult such as a maze ……..

…… or a kilo of sugar that weighs 144g …..

To weigh a giraffe is easy. Man holds giraffe ……..

……. stands on scales ……

……. which don’t lie ……

…… and do not stand on it like this …..

……. or this ……

……. or this …..

Man asks giraffe to read the weight as the man can’t see the scales ……

The giraffe climbs off the man. Records the weight of the man and subtracts that weight from the man plus the giraffe so obtaining the weight of the giraffe. What a clever giraffe !” says the horse …….

……. and the dog !

My problem is that Toni’s baby is in an almost sealed container. How does one weigh an item in an almost sealed container ?

The doctors don’t know her true weight as she is getting heavier. Her breasts are growing, laden with milkshakes.

There are optional extras in with the baby such as fluids and the cord, etc.

I reckon that the Spanish doctors are miners. They use specialist equipment ……

…….. lower themselvesΒ  down gently …….

……. scramble along the passage …….

……. open the door …….

……. and with the scales they brought with them they go in and weigh the baby !

Easy, isn’t it ! One kilogram exactly !

Or maybe I should just ask Toni. What do you think ?

I must get a life !

    • Hi YC πŸ˜€

That is amazing ! I would have never thought of that !

I have bathroom scales that talk, such as, “Ready for operation ” and “Ouch ! Please put the giraffe down !” πŸ˜‰

  1. This post really made me laugh! Yes, I think you do need to get a life. It must have taken you forever to upload all these images, and still you haven’t come up with an answer. πŸ˜€ So happy all is well with Toni’s baby, and that your pretty young neurologist is still speaking to you.

    • Hello Sylvia πŸ˜€
Thank you so much for your lovely comment which covers all the points I made.
It does take a couple of hours to draft a post such as this once I have an idea of what I want to have fun with. I enjoy the construction as well as your comments.
Off to find a life now ! Hugs. Ralph xox ❀

  2. You are such a silly heart. πŸ˜€ I always have so much fun when I come calling on you. As for the weight of the new little one…I have no idea. πŸ™„ Love and hugs. ❀

    • Hello Elizabeth my friend πŸ˜€ I’m so glad you had fun. As for the weight of the baby I found this >

“Birth-weight (g)=gestational age (d) Γ— [9.36 + 0.262 Γ— foetal sex + 0.000237 Γ— maternal height (cm) Γ— maternal weight at 26 weeks (kg) + (4.81 Γ— maternal weight gain rate (kg/d) Γ— (parity+1)], where foetal sex is equal to +1 for male, -1 for female, and 0 for unknown sex, and gestational age is equal to days since onset of last normal menses which equals the conception age (d)+14”

      I’ve got a headache !

Love and hugs back. Ralph xox ❀

  3. One of my friends is pregnant and posts stuff to Facebook from some baby site that compares where you are in pregnancy with produce. This is the most recent update:

“Baby is now the size of a bunch of bananas and can hear, so make sure not to say anything that will hurt the baby’s peelings”

    • Hi Not πŸ˜€ lol + ugh. I found this fruity picture >>>>

      I wonder what this update says ? Who’s the papa ? Ya ! πŸ˜‰ Ralph xox ❀

  4. Cheers to modern technologies and to all going well with Toni … and more cheers for her taking care of your appointment …. but that corn maze is awesome! …

I’m hosting an important blog party on Saturday, so I invite you and your readers to attend the celebration. it starts at 12:15 am (Eastern US) … thus your morning.

    • Hello Frank πŸ˜€

Toni is wonderful. She really put herself out to sort out my appointment fiasco. I am also so pleased that everything is okay with her and the baby.

Thank you so much for the invitation. I reckon 06:15am here. Will I be awake, that is the question ? And the taxi fare will be astronomical from Spain to the US πŸ˜‰

  5. Hi Ralph! So nice to see your cute mug in my neck of the woods again! πŸ˜‰
Guess this baby boy must be much bigger than a kilo by now, and keeping his mama busy! Hope you are doing well and keeping out of trouble!

    • Hi Denise πŸ˜€ It’s great to communicate with you after such a long time apart. The baby is kicking hell out of Toni’s diaphragm. A soccer player in the making ? I am pretty much the same and always in trouble. What’s new ? πŸ˜‰ I hope everything is tickety-boo with yoo. Ralph xox ❀

  6. Yup, get a life. I saw one on sale on EBay, and it was barely used. It belonged to a nudist who only used his life on Sundays, so not many kilometers on the odometer. If you do get this life, I’ll bring my fish-eye and wide angle lenses and record the event for posterity. That’ll be fun for me, anyhow.

Gosh, the little boy has some growing to do in the next 2 months, eh?

    Cheers, chap. πŸ™‚ oxo ❀

    • Hi Yvonne πŸ˜€ Okay. You’re on ! Don’t forget to bring the macro lens as you’ll need it ! πŸ˜€
Oops ! My mistake. The boy is due around Christmas time, that’s ….umm ! ……

    • Hello MVBFM πŸ˜€ I am sure Toni will be thrilled to read what you say about her.

  9. My 9lb 5lb nephew was supposed to be a barely 6lb niece, so I have little faith in ultrasounds, or perhaps those who read them…but my own children’s weights were fairly accurate predictions. Head size and femur size determine quite a bit, I’ve been told.

    PS: Love the giraffes!

  11. Ralph, this was a very philosophical way of looking at the subject. I think making such a post is a job on its own πŸ˜€ Pawkisses for a Happy Weekend πŸ™‚

  12. Hmm … After studying all of your post…. I would think they would “A” – weigh Toni, a giraffe, a cord, 2 milkshakes. and a small bucket of water at the same time. Then they would “B” weigh Toni and the giraffe together. Then they would subtract “B” from “A” and get “C”.
Then they would take “D” – Toni’s current weight (no giraffe etc.)
They would already have “E” Toni’s weight prior to pregnancy on file.
Then they would Subtract “E” from “D” to get “F”
    “F” minus “C” should equal 1 kilo!
    Love Resa xox

  13. Hello Ralph. πŸ™‚
You are so funny and I congratulate you for that.
I hope that Toni’s baby will be fine. And after birth to recover the original forms soon. Important is the child to be born healthy. Then everything will be fine.
Have a wonderful weekend, Ralph and happiness! πŸ™‚

    • Hello Ştefania πŸ˜€ Thank you so much for your wonderful comment. Happy Sunday ! Ralph xox ❀

    • Hi Debby πŸ˜€ Maybe so. Don’t ever ask me to keep one …….. or a thousand of yours πŸ˜‰ Ralph xox ❀

  14. I hope that little horse grows into its head, which looks quite large compared to its body. Or maybe that’s just the camera angle. You can get a weight estimate of a big horse by measuring the heart girth with a special weight tape, but a mini foal like that they’d probably just do like the giraffe.

    • Hi LB πŸ˜€ Wow ! That’s interesting ! I didn’t know about the weight tape. Have a lovely week ahead. Ralph xox ❀

    • Hi Diahann πŸ˜€ I am so pleased that you smiled my friend. Keep it up ! Ralph xox ❀

  15. Actually they don’t know the actual weight of the baby. It’s just more or less. In the end you can end up with a 4 kg child that was suppose to be 3kg. For example ;).

    • Hello Julita πŸ˜€ That’s what I thought. It must be a bit of a worry if the baby is big with such a range of weight. Ralph xox ❀

  16. I never gave that any thought. And – I have 3 kids: 17, 11 & 9.
Good to hear that Toni & the baby are doing well.
And – good that your appt is still on target.
    Take it easy dear Ralph.
    xx Saludos y Abrazos xx

  17. Hope the appointment with the neurologist goes well, my dear friend! I am sorry I am sporadic in my appearances but truly do enjoy reading your stories and posts. Hope to stay better in touch, like last fall and winter. Summer is finally out of my ‘system!’ Smiles, Robin

    • Hello Robin πŸ˜€ It’s a joy to see you here my friend and thank you for your kind words. I miss summer already ! Ralph xox ❀

  18. Thank you for liking “Ghostly Ladies.” What a fun post! πŸ™‚ I think asking Toni would be the easiest way to find out the baby’s weight, but I did enjoy your attempt to figure out how the weight is determined. During my sister-in-law’s four pregnancies, she and my brother seemed more concerned about the weight of the babies after they were born. I think that happened because the weight of the baby is recorded on the birth certificate.

I hope all goes well for Toni and her baby. πŸ™‚

    • Hi Arlene πŸ˜€ Thank you for commenting my friend. Toni is having problems with less than 2 months to go. The expansion of her tummy has caused a small hernia which is causing her some pain especially at night. Her doctor doesn’t seem to be too worried and has told her to take it easy and rest a lot.
Have a lovely weekend. Ralph xox ❀

      • You are welcome and thanks for the update about Toni. The hernia does not sound very comfortable, but thankfully it is not a serious problem. What drove my sister-in-law crazy when she was pregnant were the numerous false labor episodes she went through with one of her children (I think it was the third or fourth one). She and my brother got worn out constantly going to the emergency room only to be sent home because it was not time for the baby to come. They do not plan to have any more children now.

Before I go, thanks for liking “Welcome to My Blog” and “Sleepless in Sacramento Because of My WordPress Blog.” I am sorry I was not able to respond to you right away. I could not even post last week or this weekend because I was too busy, too tired, and too preoccupied with a visit from my brother and his family on Saturday. I am still trying to catch up. I hope you have a great week! πŸ™‚

  20. Oh, Ralph, you have such wonderful photos to share. Would you like to share with the Orples and me? For example, check out ‘What in the World’, ‘Minimalist’, and ‘The Orples New Friend’ on my blog, and you’ll see what I’m talking about. I want to eventually, (I hope) put a coffee-table book together, using the orples as props in various backgrounds. I will give donor bloggers credit for their work, of course, and link back to their blog, here, on wordpress. And of course we would be delighted with a re-blog, or a pingback, but that is left to you. Let me know if you would like to join the fun.;)

    • Hi Marcy πŸ˜€ I cannot really promise you anything as I am pretty much tied up with my own blog. I can cope with one post a week at the moment.
You are welcome to any of my photos on my blog which are the ones with a date in the corner. Right click and “save image” on any of the photos you like. If you want a copy of the large originals I may still have them. Don’t forget some images were found on Google Search. Ralph xox ❀

      • Thanks Ralph, I’ll link back to your original post when I use your photos, and if you’d like you can re-blog back to me. This is all in fun, but I may at some point in time put together a coffee-table book for sale to the public. Let me know if you would want to be included in that, should reality ever catch up with intent. I will,of course give you ‘hard copy’ credit in said book. πŸ™‚ Olivia blew you a kiss. She’s still a flirty little thing, you know.;)
