Angela Pulling Strings

Last Monday

A lot has happened medically to me this week while you were having fun with my last post.

David and I had appointments around the same time in Ronda Hospital, Spain, last Monday. We arrived on time and went our separate ways. Fighting my way through the crowds I eventually saw Angela, my Neurologist, and was in with her for an hour.  As she was alone with me and I had no interpreter, she opened up and her English was brilliant. I gave her a letter of symptoms since I had those 25 goblins, in which I gave her a hug and asked if she was going to send me a Valentine Card. She laughed.

So, loads of tests confirmed a slight improvement to my hands and walking except for my eyes. I can see dots and have scintillating aura regularly now.

Angela got straight on the phone to the Optician along the hall. Pulled some strings …..

……and got me straight past the queue of dozens of patients and in there for an eye examination. He said that it was normal for my age to have floating debris in the eyes and not to worry about the aura.

David had to get home as I was so long. My transport now disappeared, I took a taxi (€5) to the railway station. Had a freezing hour and a half wait !!!  I should have brought a warmer coat !!!

Eventually the train arrived (€5 for the 45 minute ride). It was lovely and warm, the views out of the window were spectacular and I was home in an hour.

Last Wednesday

I was happily blogging Wednesday afternoon when the phone rang. A Spaniard, using his best English, asked me to go to a medical centre somewhere in the centre of Ronda at 3:15 in the morning next Friday and bring my DNA…….

…… Half an hour of unravelling utter confusion it transpired that I was to have a MRI scan in a private clinic in Ronda at 3:15 the afternoon of Friday (two days time) and to bring my DNI ( a number foreigners are given who are resident in Spain).

It seems that Angela had been pulling strings again !!

Last Friday

Toni (featured in my previous post) drove me to the MRI reception in Ronda. As we were early we decided to find a cafe and enjoy a coffee.

We could not resist a scrumptious slice of cheesecake ……

….with a strong aromatic coffee. Toni helped me to cut the cake and put sugar in my coffee. I use a drinking straw as coffee goes everywhere when I try to lift a tiny handled cup ……

Arriving back at reception Toni filled out the forms (I just can’t write !!).  A question I said yes to, was “are you pregnant ?”.  That should confuse them !!

Leaving Toni, I was led onto the bridge of the Star Trek Enterprise

Where I was laid on the tray of the MRI scanner……

(Credit: Uni Regensburg MRI scanner)

A visor pulled down over my head ( nearest I got to be a knight in shining armour 😉 ) . I was given a panic button. A warm blanket placed over me and told not to move an inch !!

Then it started !! An hour with my eyes closed, as there was nothing to see, not moving, just listening to the tremendous noise of a jack hammer …..

……intermingled with a cat playing bongos…..

…..mixed with a bird (??) twittering in a cage……

……and metal woodpeckers having sex in an empty oil drum.

After an hour of these loud noises over and over again, I really did need a MRI scan !!!

page-separatorSo what will they find in my brain ? I reckon a goldfish in a bowl 🙂

And what’s next ? More goblins (IV drips) !!

But it does have it’s advantages 🙂

So was your week as laid back as mine ??

Ralph xox 🙂

    • Hi Beth 😀

So true !! Even I can’t keep up with me, so what chance do you guys have !! Have you got some jump leads… Battymobile won’t start 😉

Love your posts. Ralph xox 😀

  1. That sounds like you had a great fun with a couple of Dr. and advanced medical devices. Hope they help you getting better 🙂

I am not sure how I would rate my last week activities. I do not think it was laid back. It was rather exciting in away from traveling. I just wished it was for leisure but unfortunately it was not 🙂

    • Hi YC 😀

Both young lady doctors, Neurologist & Case doctor, are like two terriers with their teeth in me and won’t let go !! They have both told me that they are going to find out what’s wrong and fix it no matter what !!

I am so lucky to be in a country which has a National Health system, so all these treatments and tests are free. I do worry about US bloggers who have to pay for everything.

At least you got out and about YC. Sometimes travelling can be a pleasure even if it’s not for leisure.

      Ralph 😀

  2. Angela seems to be on board here, and gets you really checked out. Glad your hands are a bit better. Lets see what they find in the scan…. you forgot to tell them about the bundle of hay in your head next to the goldfish…… I wonder what they make of it. Lets hope you get a bit of rest this week. 😉

    • Hi Ute 😀 LOL. Oh yes !! The hay !! I did forget to tell them that I am a scarecrow like Worzel Gummage (shown here with his girlfriend doll Aunt Sally). Oh well. Make hay while the sun shines 😉 Let’s hope we both get a bit of a rest this week !! 😀 Big hug. Ralph xox 😀

  3. Hello Poet, i loved all the story… very witty and has suspense too….. Did she send or not??? I think she will. Have a beautiful night. MM

    • Hello Mirna !! Welcome to Bluefish Way 😀
I am so pleased that you enjoyed this post.
No, not yet. There is no sign of a Valentine card from Angela. You really think she will ? I’m not so sure.
Thank you for the beautiful night. I hope you are having lovely one as well. Ralph xox 😀

  4. Oh my! You have been having fun, haven’t you? My week has not been as much fun as yours, although my hyper-inflated lung may present some fun in my future. 😛 I hope your test results come back positively good. I think you’ve had enough fun for a while.

    • Hi Rene 😀 Oh dear !! I have just Googled “hyperinflated lung” (NOT googled AT your “hyperinflated lung”). See. I am on my best behaviour !!! 😉 And Mr Google told me about your condition. I do hope that it’s not too serious and that they can help you to recover my friend.
I agree. I have had enough of medical fun for a while, but I am expecting a call or letter from Angela soon for more fun.
Have a lovely week. Ralph xox 😀

  5. Oh dear!
My week was full of germs & I was a bit under the weather. But – I had nothing exciting going on like you did! 😉
Hope all is well & stays well.
    xx Saludos y Abrazos xx

    • Hi RoSy 😀 I do hope you are feeling better. Your comment is exciting for me to read 😀 Ralph xox 😀

    • Hi Gallivanta 😀 Yes, that’s me, a puppet on a string. I used to have a crush on Sandie Shaw 😉

Your YouTube link didn’t work. It’s easy.

      You Tube in Comments:
Click on Share (NOT Embed !!) and copy the blue code. Paste into your comment or a comment in another blog.

      Ralph xox 😀

      • A crush on Sandie Shaw; cute. I know the link didn’t work! I am an idiot!!!! I will try again!

      • No. You’re not an idiot.
As the video is so big the code needed to be on a line of its own. So. Your comment…….New line…….Paste code.
I moved the code to a new line for you my friend. 😀

  6. Oh, our dear Superhero! I wish all your fans could come and see you, and give you lots of big hugs, and do things for you until your recover your super powers. What a week, and it’s just the beginning of more adventures, it seems.

Do you have those annoying scotomas all the time? It must be so very annoying, along with everything else you’re experiencing.

Take care, dear internet friend. Love and hugs. oxoxo

PS There are signs of the imminent arrival of Saint Valentino, even here in Venice. I’ll post a photo or 2 on the day. Ciao, ragazzo. 🙂

    • Hi Yvonne 😀

I must agree with your first paragraph. I am finding it more and more difficult to keep the apartment looking nice, housework and just doing little things. It takes me so long to do the simplest thing. Because of that my blogging has to be cut back. I just do a bit now and again at the moment. Never mind. I have eventually got around to answering your lovely comment.

I suppose I experience the scotoma about once or twice a week. Lasts for about 15 minutes. I am getting used to it. 😀

Yes. Not long until Valentine’s Day. I still have 7 cards to open with more expected. The post person hasn’t been delivering for a few days. Maybe more tomorrow 😀

      Big hugs. Ralph xox 😀

  7. I’ve heard that those MRI scans are pretty loud. Thanks for the details. Brings it all to life. And I hope you get some answers!

    • Hello Georgia 😀 It was extremely loud !! I am so glad that I wasn’t claustrophobic. Even so, towards the end I wanted to get out as it seemed to go on and on. In a way I hope they do find something to work on. Have a lovely day. Ralph xox 😀

  8. Dear friend Ralph,

You had quite the adventure! I love how you keep your sense of humor though.

Sending you lots of positive and healing thoughts across the miles.

    Your pal in the States,

    • Good afternoon Nancy 😀 Thank you so much for your lovely words. I do appreciate them. Hugs. Ralph xox 😀

    • Hi Claire 😀
😆 Yep. Laid back !! A quiet week for me 😉
      I am “cow”nting the days to Valentine’s Day 😉
      Ralph xox 😀

  9. What an adventurous week you had, Ralph. A visor and a panic button sounds like a very good combination indeed. I think you’re so brave going inside that thing. What if it was a cutting a Ralph in half magic trick, that they wanted to try out? 😯 Seriously though, I do hope they manage to find out what’s causing your problems and make you all well again. xx

    • So funny Sylvia 😆 I would be legless if the trick cut me in half !! At least I didn’t come out with a 36FF chest wearing a mini-skirt !! 🙄
Finding out what’s wrong. I hope so too ! Hugs. Ralph xox 😀

  10. I really laughed at the “pregnant” thing. You’re a funny bugger Ralph.
I admire your sense of humour under these circumstances. It can’t be fun going through all this.
Good for you to get the eye thing checked out promptly. (So important to not ignore eye problems)
Glad it’s nothing too worrisome anyway.
Looking at that video of the scintillating thing….that’s EXACTLY what I see before a whopper of a migraine….but touch wood I haven’t had one in years.

    • Hi Tracy 😀

Hehe……got to turn a worrying situation into a fun time !! I suppose I got that way when I was in stressful situations in the British Army. We laughed over the silliest things to break the tension.

OMG ! I hope I don’t get migraine !! At the moment I have no pain, just the annoying fact that my hands seem to want to do their own thing 😀

      Big hug. Ralph xox 😀

  11. Hello lovely Ralph, what a great post with excellent photos, you make me laughing and a little worried, hope that everything is going well for you ! If you have time and be in the mood I tagged you in my latest post, just watch about 10 min. ok ! 🙂 Hugs Sérach ❤

    • Hi Resa 😀

You have me blushing now 😳

BTW your posts of design & craftsmanship are heavenly 😀 You’ve got me !! A fan !!

      Big hug. Ralph xox 😀

  12. I am hoping you will FINALLY get some answers and so glad to see your humor through your crazy journey! 🙂

    • Hello Debby 😀
Ah ha !! At last, someone ……… realises that I’m on a crazy journey 😉
I do hope you are having a lovely week. Ralph xox 😀

  13. Wow, quite a week! That is great that you have someone pulling strings for you. I hope the goldfish will be ok.
    Take good care my dear.

PS. I am sending a Valentine but because of my talent of procrastination, it will likely be a bit late.

    • Wow my friend, what a fabulous comment !!! 😀 My next post is enhanced by your second sentence. Thank you !!

The goldfish is fine. He has taught me a lot. Reduced my memory to 4 seconds and I am learning how to blow bubbles 😉

You are so sweet to send me a Valentine card. If it arrives late I will save it for next year as I may have none then 😉

Big hug for you Katie. Ralph xox 😀

  14. Ralph, you have such a great sense of humor no matter what is happening in your life. I certainly hope that the doctors can determine what is causing your difficulties. Take care my friend.

    • Hi LuAnn 😀 Oh, that is really nice of you to say those kind words my friend. Hugs. Ralph xox 😀

  15. There is so much fun to be had with drinking through straws. I too cant hold those tiny little tea cups, I have to use a great big mug and fill it half full.

I do hope the MRI didn’t distress you at all. They are extremely loud, I have had 3 so far and each and every time it has reminded me of a really bad rave.
Hope it gives you some answers

    • Hi Ella 😀

Your first paragraph is exactly me as well. I prefer a big mug with the handle right at the top, but a straw is so much easier to drink with.

I’ve never been to a rave, but I can imagine. Agitated ?? Well only at the end. The MRI scan went on and on and on. I was getting to the point of having enough, but knew I couldn’t move or else they would have to do it again another day.

I do hope they can find answers for you also my friend. Ralph xox 😀

  16. Hi MFR,
Is this week over already? You have been very busy. I can’t imagine being so still for so long. You are very patient and brave. I hope to hear some good news about your improvements very soon. 🙂 RVBFM xox

    • Hi MVBFM :D,
No news as yet. Maybe they can’t make head or tail of the computer images of my brain 🙄
I hope you all are having a great weekend. It’s raining hard here which helps with the lack of water in the reservoirs, rivers and aquifers. Ralph xox 😀

  17. WOW Ralph,
You really don’t have to pay?
I want to move to Spain..
It’s no fun having to go to the Dr’s & being in pain.
I hope the best of health for you Ralph.
And thanks for your nice comment’s
I have so enjoyed my visit here a really nice blog…
    Good health to you 🙂

    • Hi Doris 😀
That’s right. We don’t have to pay if on the Spanish National Health register. I could use an ambulance to get to hospital appointments as most local villagers do, but I go by car. A token payment of a few cents has to be paid for prescriptions at the pharmacy. Other than that it’s all free. Because of that the waiting rooms are jammed both in the local clinic and in hospital.
Thank you so much for your visit and lovely comment Doris. Get well. Okay ? Ralph xox ❤
