Market Day Cortes De La Frontera

Every other Thursday is market day in Cortes de la Frontera, Andalucia, Spain. Not much to write home about, but handy if you need women’s clothes or women’s clothes or……..

I have been wanting to write a post about the local market for a while and this Thursday was such a lovely day so I twisted my arm and went for it. I hope you enjoyed the walk with David and I ?

What do you buy in your local market ??

  1. Ralph, did you buy anything there? πŸ™‚

I see there are more items than just clothing. I think they call it “flee market” here. There are all sort of things there. It is fun check them out once in awhile.

    • Hi YC πŸ˜€
No. I hardly ever buy anything in the market, maybe fluorescent underwear and I did buy a suede coat for €3 once.
I think you meant to say “flea market” but I love “flee market” ……… it’s a man thing !! Ralph xox πŸ˜€

  2. So, did you happen to need any women’s clothes, Ralph? Love the padded ear muffs. Definitely not ‘one size fits all’. πŸ˜€

    • Woah !! You have caught me out Sylvia. Don’t tell anyone πŸ˜‰ (now where did I hear that before ?).
I think that T’pol from Startrek Enterprise would need extra large ear warmers πŸ˜‰ Ralph xox πŸ˜€

    • Hi Ute πŸ˜€ Along the Costa del Sol, especially near Marbella, the market prices are high compared to here in the mountains. So yes, many bargains locally. Ralph xox πŸ˜€

    • Hi Bill πŸ˜€ OMG. These comments are deteriorating into realms I have never been. Maybe I should buy women’s clothes as they are a heck of a lot cheaper than men’s……. well, that’s my excuse….hehe !! Ralph πŸ˜€

  3. Very comic comments on your tour on the local market full of lovely photos ! I normally buy some fresh fruit or vegetables and sometimes clothes bot never padded ear warmers……..hahaha πŸ™‚ !

    • Hi Shiro πŸ˜€ No ear warmers for you then !! Fruit & Veg are heavy to carry through a market. I hope you have help ……. a big strong man perhaps πŸ˜‰ Ralph xox πŸ˜€

      • While you are there could you get me a sack of potatoes ? πŸ˜‰ xox

      • Hahaha……..potatoes we do another time, because they are just to much for me but maybe only a few Spanish oranges Ralph ?

      • No need Shiro. I can walk out the back and pick them off the trees …… but picking potatoes off a tree is a different matter ….. big problem πŸ˜‰

    • Good evening Katie πŸ™‚ I have no muscles in my arm and I haven’t a clue how to use those ear warmers. Any hints ? Ralph xox πŸ˜€

  4. What do I buy in my local market
    – easy answered, things I need and a lot of things I don’t need…
    πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ˜‰

    • Then you must be a stall holder’s dream Drake. She must be pretty !! πŸ˜‰ Ralph πŸ˜€

      • ‘hahaha’ – in my youth, you know, right after the Middle Ages – I was on interrailing through Europe – on a marketplace in Rome – there was a market stall where there was a young same aged black-haired beauty who sold fruits – not forbidden fruit, but real fruit – I was immediately in love;-) – but the problem was that her mother led the market stall with an iron fist – and probably she didn’t like young danish men – so she threatened me with both tomatoes and potatoes πŸ™‚ – but the mother had been up early and fell early asleep – so it was a nice night out with her daughter and all her friends… πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

      • Wow !! Almost a Danish fable. I can see this turning into one of your posts Drake πŸ˜€

    • How can she indeed M’lady ? There were no bags in this market, so it’s not worth visiting here ……. unless, of course, you have another reason to visit πŸ˜‰ Ralph xox πŸ˜€

    • Haha !! There were so many different colours I just couldn’t make up my mind πŸ˜‰
      Maybe in a fortnight’s time …….. don’t say a word Beth !! Ralph xox πŸ˜€

  5. Not a fan of shopping. But – I do enjoy the atmosphere of flea markets & craft fairs.
Those ear muffs seem to have a lot of padding. Does it really get that cold in Spain?
    xx Saludos y Abrazos xx

    • Hi RoSy πŸ˜€ I don’t recognise you without your beard πŸ˜‰
It does get cold here but I think that many women have small ears… so the padding !!! πŸ˜‰ Ralph xox πŸ˜€

    • Hello again Sheri πŸ˜€
I have to visit the Neurologist in Ronda Hospital next Wednesday so I will take my camera and do a post on the long mountainous journey by the weekend. I hope you are having a great Sunday. Ralph xox πŸ˜€

    • I don’t think I have ever seen a stall selling hats. I bought 2 in a farm shop in Gaucin and the others in a superstore I think. I’ll wear a different one on Wednesday. Happy Sunday my friend. Ralph xox πŸ˜€

  6. I like flee markets. They’re so much more fun than shopping in a shopping mall.

And it’s so warm back there! I want to go back to Catalunya to get back my dose of warmth & sun!! 😦

    • Hi Julita πŸ˜€
Haha. I like “flee” markets too !! Still sunny in Andalucia though a lot cooler. Come home soon πŸ˜€ Ralph xox πŸ˜€

      • Hihi πŸ˜€ Well, it actually is a flee market, isn’t it? Think about it.

I’ll come home as soon as possible. And that is in December… Ah…

      • Thinking πŸ˜€ It may still be sunny here in December. It usually is πŸ˜€ xox

    • Hi Debby πŸ˜€ I am having more fun here than in the market …. but I did enjoy the day out on Thursday. Ralph xox πŸ˜€

  7. MFR, I laughed out loud through the whole show. I loved them men in blue and the lady who wasn’t watching where she was going. I think the jumper guy ran into her on purpose. Now his ears will be burning, and ear warmers won’t help him at all. Best market ever. Would you get me some cheap pants for my birthday? πŸ™‚ JK, MFR! Toooooo funny! πŸ™‚

    • Hahaha ! I’m so pleased that you enjoyed the slideshow MVBFM. Cheap pants ? One-size-fits-small, so long as you are Chinese, they’ll fit πŸ˜‰ Ralph xox πŸ˜€

      • They’re just my type! Such bright colors! hehehe I’d like to be a small, does that count? xox

      • If you want your waist cut in half I’ll buy you a pair πŸ˜‰ xox

  8. Thanks for the short visit to Spain. At my market I typically buy organic vegetables and meats, and gluten-free foods (gluten gives me back aches!).

    • Hi Georgia πŸ˜€ I had to google gluten and am still none the wiser, except some people have problems with it. Are you sure your back-ache is caused by gluten πŸ˜‰ hehe. Ralph xox πŸ˜€

    • Hi Celeste πŸ˜€
No. No. Nooooo !! No time as I was on a photo-shoot πŸ˜‰ Well, that’s my excuse !!
      Ralph xox πŸ˜€

  9. Thanks for your interest in β€œTails from Paris”. We’re now following your blog.

Hey ! You know you can treat yourself with a little trip to Paris if you feel like it :

And you’re back for dinner : we promise πŸ˜‰

    Alix & Roxane

  10. We buy bok choy, lettuce, tomatoes, fresh fruit and we like their baked goods! Delaware Community Market in Delaware, Ohio. If the Farmer’s Market is open, Wed. and Sat. we would go, but it is only seasonal. Thanks for this great post! Love the colors of the textiles in your local market!

    • Hi Robin πŸ˜€
What a great market you have. I wish mine was a bit more varied. Ralph xox πŸ˜€

      • I think that the reason my youngest daughter goes is to be healthy but my reason is to have something homemade that has nice ingredients like butter in it! So, often I will choose a spinach cheese muffin that is so delicious! I would have a dozen or so if I baked but by buying one and a blueberry one, too, I have helped a local person that did the work and end up with a nice breakfast snack at work! Thanks for liking my posts and reading all the ones you did way back when!

      • I would love to comment on your posts and many other bloggers’ posts a lot more. I wish I had the time to do so, but I do read and enjoy what you have to say ….. so the Likes are real πŸ˜€ xox

  11. I love markets! I’m usually one of the stallholders selling my wares (candles) I did enjoy having a long distance nosy through your markets though.

    • Thanks Tracy. I hope you are making plenty of sales and not lighting your candles at both ends. πŸ˜‰ Ralph xox πŸ˜€

      • One more market to go and then that’s us done for summer. Too hot now, both ME and the candles will melt!

    • Okay. Okay. I can hear you tapping your fingers, fidgeting etc. I have a slideshow in rehearsal at the moment πŸ˜‰ You cannot rush artistic excellence ….. but you can rush me πŸ˜‰ xox

      • Haha, I give you one day more, and if it’s not done by then… I don’t know what. I wouldn’t be a good mafia member :P.

Can’t wait for more of Ralph’s life adventures & philosophy! πŸ™‚
