YouTube Video In A Post, Comment Or Sidebar

Sometimes you may want to beef up your post, comment or sidebar with a YouTube video. I hope this post will help you just to do that.

YouTube video in a post

Okay. You have found the video that you want to put in your post.

Left click on “Share” just under the video.

Find “Embed” and left click.

You will see loads of code come up in a box.

Right click anywhere in the box. Select All (it will turn blue) and Copy.

Paste into your new post.

(You can adjust the size of the video but 420 is normally fine)

YouTube Video in a comment

Because YouTube allows you to share the video you can place a video not only in your comments but into another blogger’s comments as well.

Okay. You have found the video that you want to put in the comment.

Left click “Share”

Right click on the blue code. Copy.

Paste into the comment.

Post Comment and voila !!!

(This is a picture……..duh!! hehe!!)

YouTube video on your sidebar

WordPress dot Com themes are all different and that includes the width of your sidebar. If your sidebar looks narrow, it probably is too narrow to embed a YouTube video and the screen will come up with white noise and tell you it’s too small. So don’t get in a tantrum, shout at your partner, throw your laptop out of the window. Have a glass of wine instead !!

Okay. You have found the video that you want to put in the sidebar.

Left click “Share”

Left click “Embed”

Open “Video Size” select “Custom Size” and type in the first box 300 (which works for me. I think the minimum size is around 220, so see what fits your sidebar best, if at all)

Right click in the box with all the code, Select All (it will turn blue) and Copy

Widget time !! Yippee or OMG moment.

Open up your dashboard/appearance/widgets

Find “Text” in the main store of widgets on the Left Hand Side. Left click, but hold down and drag it to the Right Hand Side and find a spare space which will open as you move the “Text” widget into your working widgets.

The widget will open. Paste the video code into the Text widget. Save and close.

And voila. A video on your sidebar.

You can reshuffle your widgets UP and DOWN by left clicking and hold down. Never move your widget to the left as you will lose it !!

Whew !!

  1. I’ll try that. I want to put on my sidebar the video of SMILE by Uncle Krocker. THanks for the instructions !

  2. Hi Funny Bunny!!

(Video removed by the Editor-in-Chief of Bluefish Way. So I’ll put the post video in this comment)

      • hehehe I KNOWWWWW!! I have been giggling gleefully since I put it up!! Dance wriggle!

      • I am so pleased that you shared your expertise at putting a video into MY comments πŸ˜€

Moving on. I just love this woman !!

  3. Thank you for sharing the tip Ralph. I would like to embed the link to video on Youtube but do not want it to show the actual picture. It is just a sound that I would like to get and automatically play when people open the blog. Is that possible?

    • Hi YC πŸ˜€ You can find “MP3 Download” next to the Search at the top of the page of the YouTube music video. Click on it and a few minutes later the song is in your download file.

Many sites such as Viveka’s use SoundCloud.

I have never tried the audio automatic play.

WP Support shows you different ways of using audio.

Maybe someone else who does this can jump in here.

      Ralph xox πŸ˜€

      • Sorry that I couldn’t help you any more than this. Good luck in finding out the best way for you to autoplay πŸ˜€

      • OH $#^$*#% ! sometimes when you are being speedy and hit the reply button, one hits the thumbs down 😦 I’m sorry.

I have one of the older AND free wp platforms….no can do with the non youtube videos………..I DID figure out how to make the video size teeeeny tiny, by altering the code that allows the embed. I am not at all knowledgeable about any other sound player-type widgets within my own theme.

  4. Thank you. I am going to post one, just because you have taken the time to teach us. πŸ˜€

    • Hello Dawn πŸ˜€ That is a really kind thing to say. I am following you so I will know when you have put in a video into your post. Good luck !! Ralph xox πŸ˜€

  5. Dang you are one smarty pants, are you not? Ralph you have got it going on and gee the info is so much better than WP. I’ve posted a couple of videos in some posts back in May. They worked very well but have not tried any lately. I like the music thing for a post such as the lady who uses music for different posts.

I like Santana a bunch and now I think you’ll have more men visiting your blog just to get a look at the belly dancer who is REALLY, REALLY GOOD at or in her craft/art/dance. Excellent dancing and she’s got it going on too. πŸ™‚

    • Hi Yvonne. Dang, if you say that I am a (dang) smarty (dang) pants then who am I to argue πŸ˜‰ Yes. that belly dancer is (dang) brilliant. I may keep her wiggling on my (dang) sidebar for a while. Have a happy Tuesday. Ralph xox πŸ˜€

      • OK Ralph. I have gotten the message. πŸ™‚ I’ll stop using dang and go for the REAL word or not. πŸ™‚ ~yvonne xox

      • LOL> I just love the word “dang” better than a REAL word I think πŸ™‚

  6. Well now, that was clear as mud. Being basically computer illiterate – I think I started laughing about the same time I started reading!:)

    • Hi G πŸ˜€
When I first started blogging with WP a year ago, WP Support was as clear as mud and I found the dashboard really difficult to master. So I played with it, googled what I didn’t know, read comments in the WP forum and tried things out. Invariably I made loads of mistakes and still do. I definitely don’t know it all and it’s a constant learning process for me. But I keep playing, trying things and if I know how to do something and someone asks, how can I refuse. So I published these two posts on images & videos so if I am asked again I can refer them to these posts.
I am due to write a fun post soon, about time to !! Ralph πŸ˜€

      • Don’t get me wrong, Ralph. Although my brain (the Black Hole) lets everything in – usually nothing comes out – but I did enjoy your post and just might start to try it one day.

      • I really do understand where you are coming from. I have the same problem with languages and like an idiot I am living in Spain 😳
Have a play. With your specialist blog I am sure there are many videos on YouTube which will enhance your posts. Good luck.

    • Oh sorry there went something wrong, I was sure I had put one youtube video of the Simpsons but it wasn’t……….hahaha !

    • Oh Shiro. I am so pleased that you didn’t follow my instructions of how to put a YouTube video in comments. It was awful ….poop it’s called….. it was as bad as the one I removed from Elisa’s comment.
Never mind. A big hug my friend πŸ˜€ Ralph xox πŸ˜€

  7. Thanks for this tutorial, Ralph. I’ll come back and study it when I’m not busy packing and travelling. πŸ™‚

    • Don’t you ever stop Sylvia ? Are you on the run ? Possibly from the FBI (the Fluffy Bunny Institute) ? πŸ˜‰ Ralph xox πŸ˜€

      • Only going up to New Jersey for our granddaughter’s 8th birthday party. In November I’m going to Costa Rica. πŸ˜€

      • I hope you have a lovely time at both destinations especially your granddaughter’s birthday party Sylvia πŸ˜€

    • Hello Georgia and welcome to Bluefish Way πŸ˜€ I hope this and the previous post may help you in the future. I love your blog and the points that you raise are very helpful …… if I ever get in a relationship that needs them that is πŸ˜‰ Ralph xox πŸ˜€

    • Hi Alana πŸ˜€ The two women in the comment videos are playing in game shows. I have absolutely no idea who they are. The second one in Elisa’s comments is SO funny !! I hope you are having a great day my friend. Ralph xox πŸ˜€

      • If you go back to my previous post, and scroll down the comments you will see I did an awesome photo comment to another blogger πŸ˜‰ Well, I thought it was awesome. It would be no big deal for you Professor!

      • Yes. The mail !! You are becoming an expert now πŸ˜€ Goodnight.

  8. Thank God the instructions are short and to the point. I now know where to go when I finally decide to share a video on my blog. Thanks so much Ralph for giving all these tips to techno deficient human beings like me. Have a great evening or what time could it be now? Best wishes! are you not sleeping….

      • Ha ha. I’m eating raw carrots. I’ve eaten so many am now having stomach discomfort ouch! Have a nice day!

      • Wow !! You’ll be able to see in the dark with no problem now πŸ˜‰

  9. I didn’t know about putting it on the side. But – now that you mention it – I see what you mean & how easy it is. Of – course – the thing is to remember to adjust the dimensions for that. Thanks for showing how to do that.

Well – here’s my pup – Fenway – spinning on his favorite chair in his big brother’s room.

    • Fenway loves that doesn’t he RoSy πŸ˜€
I am glad that you now know how to put a YouTube video on your sidebar. Big hug.. Ralph xox πŸ˜€

  10. I can’t see any of the videos in your comments, but there is always something electronically that seems to plague me. Love the post, though, Ralph, My Friend. πŸ™‚ xox

  11. Wow, this is such an amazing share; Ralph

    I will give it a shoot later… Many thanks;

    Aquileana πŸ™‚

    • Thank you so much for your input Aquileana πŸ˜€ I do like to help if I can. Good luck with your “shoot”. Ralph xox πŸ˜€

      • Indeed… I have shared it on Google plus & twitter… I will check it out later. Thanks for the helpful tips, Ralph;

        Cheers, Aquileana πŸ˜‰
