Comments, Gravatars And Gripes

Those of you who know me know that I love the fun we have in Comments. What amazes me is that I can basically type what I like, sometimes taking the mickey, other times flirting almost going over the top. Yet you love it and always come back for more in subsequent posts. I go back and read some of my old comments and cringe, thinking, did I really say THAT to her !! I DO think about what I write occasionally !!

Now some gripes about Comments:

  1. I’m sorry but I can’t stand bloggers who can’t be bothered to answer comments. Why don’t they just switch comments off and save the writer the time and effort in making a comment.
  2. Sometimes I want to make a comment then I find I haveΒ  to fill in a form asking for the last time I had sex, my cats’ ages and what I had for tea. I don’t have time for the email address and so on. Bye !!
  3. I know some bloggers have loads of comments. Fantastic !! I usually wait a day or so before I comment otherwise I get 50 comment emails in my Inbox usually just saying thank you as the blogger answers so many in one hit.

Β I have so much praise for those of you who actually read the comment made and answer it fully with thought and the knowledge that the person has put him/herself out to say something about the post. Respect !!

Many of you have had a good moan about this. There is usually no problem in linking to another person’s blog from your own blog’s LIKE email. But go into another blog and click on a LIKE gravatar link and something like this comes up in the Gravatar:

Hello. My name is Amanda. I am 24 and live in Greenland. I have 24 lovely husbands and 24 bouncing babies. I am a fully qualified SEAL who knits and cooks on top of Mount Everest. Please visit my blog for instruction on monogamy,Β  protection against unwanted pregnancies, knitting on SEAL operations etc.

Then NOTHING. No link to her blog !! That infuriates me !! I have always wanted to be a SEAL who knits !!

If you haven’t a link to your blog from Gravatar please make one, because I am not going to try to Google you. I am not able to visit your blog and learn how to become a SEAL who knits.

  1. Oh Ralph, you are irresistibly funny but you do raise some serious points. I think I have appropriate links on my Gravatar. Well, you found me, so I must have. I get a bit excited when I can’t find a link on a blog to ‘Home’, meaning a link to the latest post. But, sometimes, the fault is mine :(.

    • Hello Amand …..oops…. Gallivanta πŸ˜‰ Yes, you are so easy to find as you always write great comments and LIKE the usual rubbish that I publish. The fault in linking to another blog is usually the other blogger. Happy Sunday my friend. Ralph xox πŸ˜€

      • Well, on the surface, you appear to write some rubbish but, even in rubbish, there are treasures to be found. And I can tell that you are not all ‘froth and bubble’; that’s only after you have been to a party;) Otherwise, there’s plenty of good substance in you πŸ™‚ We have a strict recycling programme in our city; I am very good at sorting out the rubbish. In fact our city recycling slogan is ” LOVE YOUR RUBBISH”. Truly, it is!

      • But should I become froth and bubble I ask myself or should I stick to treasured rubbish ? πŸ˜‰

      • Is it a case of either/ or? Perhaps you can take turn and turn about πŸ™‚ Live dangerously!

      • You are !! But I won’t tell anyone. It’s just between the two of us (oops !! and 543 followers) πŸ˜‰

      • Oops. (blush) ! Now I will leave you to a peaceful Sunday, because it is already Monday here, and way, way, past my bedtime.

      • Good girl. It’s just past midnight here in sunny Spain ( well it would be sunny if it wasn’t night). Got to go to bed soon. You can tell me off now for staying up late πŸ˜‰

    • I did google a couple of times in the past and thought, “Well if the blogger can’t be bothered to link the blog to the gravatar why should I bother going through all the hassle of googling”, and, as you say end up on someone else’s site which is probably better than the original. Happy googling Wendy. Ralph xox πŸ˜€

      • Perhaps some just didn’t know how to include the links in their Gravatars…since I used to be one of those when I first use WP…LOL…

Anyway, I guess it is all about affinity when it comes to which blog we might get to read next…and that’s the fun about blog reading at times…:)

Have a lovely day ahead, my friend~ Cheers!! πŸ˜€

      • I think when I set up my Gravatar over a year ago I went into WP Support and Forums for help in how to set up my Gravatar. The link at the bottom of this post body really helps.
I’m a random reader of blogs but I have some favourites which I go to as soon as I am notified of a new post.
        Have fun. Ralph xox πŸ˜€

      • Yes indeed…the WP Support and Forums were very helpful during that time but then again I was quite clueless during the initial period, therefore I didn’t really know what to do until when I noticed what was lacking…I guess that’s the way of life…hehe…

Thank you so much for your suggestion, my friend!

Have a great day ahead, always~ Cheers!! πŸ˜€

  2. I think I need to check out my Gravatar, it may well be one of those dodgy ones that you mention!! Regarding comments, I absolutely agree with you, Ralph. I follow many blogs and spend a lot of time leaving comments, I’m amazed at how few people bother to reply. Something I have noticed recently and I’m not sure if it’s just happening to me or to others as well is that when I leave a comment generally I get a notification on from WP in my in-box thingy when the person responds to it. Lately it hasn’t been doing that and it’s only when I go back to the persons site a few days later that I see that they did in fact respond but I wasn’t notified. I don’t follow comments via email because my in-box gets choked with them. Not sure if any of this has made sense! πŸ˜€

    • Yippee !! You’ve got a Studio Nevin link !! You’re okay Lottie, though the posts may be a bit dodgy πŸ˜‰
I do get all the comment emails. That’s never happened to me because when I reply I click the comment notification box under the writing box. I have a choked Inbox as well. Have a lovely Sunday my friend. Ralph xox πŸ˜€

      • Thanks for the feedback, Ralph. It’s kind of good news….Studio Nevin is Irishman’s site so I’m not sure what’s going on there – I definitely need to check it out – no wonder he gets so much traffic LOL!!! My Sunday is now almost evening. The sun is definitely over the yard arm! YAY! xx

      • How the heck did you get someone else’s site on your Gravatar Lottie ??? Beats me. Must be the sun !!
        YAY !! Cheers !! Ralph xox πŸ˜€

      • You can’t win the lottery if you don’t play it !!
You’re not playing in your Gravatar ….. he is though !!

  3. Yes, agree with you Ralph. I don’t trust those knitting seals anyway.
What I hate most are those comments that you just KNOW are spam. “Loved your post, great topic!” when I’ve just blogged about snot or something.
Sometimes I just write dribble, what can I say.

    • You don’t trust them?? Knitting SEALs must be the IN thing nowadays πŸ˜‰
I am so glad that we have Akismet or our inbox would be full of junk. In my dashboard Akismet has three times more comments than me.
I write dribble, you write good dribble ….. or (s)not πŸ˜‰ Ralph xox πŸ˜€

  4. great points (both) – I see lots of Gravatars with no link to the blog. What I do (if I have time) is in the top search line, you delete “” – just keep the name of the gravatar, and add (dot)wordpress(dot)com, and it takes you to their blog.
Bit convoluted I know….. I think a great many people don’t really know that they should put their blog link with their Gravatar. I think sometimes this blogging thing is not as easy as it sounds….

    • I didn’t know that !! You are not just a pretty face after all !! I’ll try that next time !! Thanks. Ralph xox πŸ˜€
      PS If I remember πŸ˜‰

      • If that’s what Croatia has done to you I’m staying put in Spain and get my own grey cells from this lot here πŸ˜‰

  5. I would have to agree. You have good points here. I believe I have seen all of the above.
Now back to the contents of comment. About the “I DO think about what I write occasionally !!”, hmm. My suggestion is “Think twice before you write.” just like “Measure twice before you cut”. Once you cut (or wrote), you can not recall. Have a great day and Quack! πŸ™‚

    • Oh. Come on YC !! I am lucky to think once. Twice would give me a severe headache πŸ˜‰
Publish and be damned. That’s my motto !!
Quackity Quack !! Ralph xox πŸ˜€

  6. Oh my, your inbox must be really full! I never check the email box for comments; I just use the notification tab. But as another commenter said, it’s very frustrating when it’s not working. And I’m with you on the Gravatar thing! First world problems, right? πŸ™‚

    • Hi Carrie πŸ˜€
Sometimes ….. not very often, I can get my Inbox to zero …. a yippee moment for me. I like to use my Inbox because I don’t miss anyone who has LIKEd me (sad people πŸ˜‰ ) and I can go forth, if I wish, and tour their blog once mine has quietened down.
Now. First world problems !??! Does that mean countries in the first world or do I have to go out and solve ALL the problems of the world ?? I’ll have a coffee first, then, when I get 7 billion LIKEs on a future post I will know that all the problems have been solved. Then I’ll have another cup of coffee πŸ˜‰ Simple !! Have a lovely Sunday Carrie. Ralph xox πŸ˜€

      • Is that GMT, Pacific Time or Australian Kangaroo Time. ?? So many Times to choose from πŸ˜‰

      • Okay. Got to hurry. Now where shall I start, US economy, Syria, the Ring of Fire, McDonalds ?? Start big ……. McDonalds πŸ˜‰

    • You are so welcome RoSy.
*thinks* “another one gone potty” πŸ˜‰
Have a lovely day my friend. Ralph xox πŸ˜€

  7. ^^^ LOL – Sorry Ralph – I just couldn’t resist! πŸ˜† ^^^
    xx Saludos y Abrazos xx

    • I understand RoSy. To you, I am irresistible πŸ˜‰
Hugs and kisses. Ralph xox πŸ˜€

    • Hi Sheri πŸ˜€ I knew it !! Irresistible deodorant sprayed on my laptop works every time πŸ˜‰
I hope those who don’t have links in their Gravatars and/or don’t answer comments read your comment my special friend. Yes it’s OKAY !!
A mega hug to you and have a happy Sunday. Ralph xoxo πŸ˜€

  8. You are amazing dear Ralph, and I love to read you… (By they way I really can’t catch the comments/answers on time… Time isn’t enough for everything…forgive me! But I will remember, to do my best… πŸ™‚ ) Thanks and Love, nia

    • No need to forgive you my friend. It’s just great to read your replies and I do understand. Ralph xox πŸ˜€

  9. Oh I love the gripes for the comments……hahaha:). I don’t remember how you did find me or I just found you , but my gravatar is quite ok maybe it needs a little new jacket……I will see, thanks for remember me how important it is Ralph πŸ™‚ !Xoxo

    • I remember vividly when we first met my friend. It is a long story, so settle down with a glass of wine. Reading this should jog your memory:

“We were alone, walking towards one another. As you reached me you turned towards the sea. I watched your smile as you stared dreamily at the setting sun spraying the clouds and sea in vibrant reds and oranges. Beside the sun was a magnificent full moon rising. For a split second the sun and moon touched then gradually went their own way. The white moon rising as the orange sun was setting.

You, dressed in a white robe painted orange by the setting sun, dripped in gold necklaces and a gold belt with twinkling diamonds, turned to me, smiled and said, “I’ll have a vanilla please”.

Yes. You were a queen and I was a ice cream sales boy in Atlantis 8000 years ago.

      Remember ?”

  10. Hi Ralph! I’m Cheryl from the Southern U.S., Georgia to be exact. I found your blog through Liz ( and I just love your sense of humor! I am sooo sorry for the loss of your sweet kitty. I’m a cat person too, even though they beat me up a lot. So, just wanted to let you know you have a new stalker! Hugs, Cheryl

    • Hi Cheryl, welcome to my humble blog where love, respect and dignity resides …..*thinks* if she believes that she’ll believe anything I say ……. hmmm … yes, welcome Cheryl. I am honoured to be stalked by you, just don’t tell anyone what you may find out about me. Okay ?
Being beaten up by your cats has just ruined my image of you as a stalker πŸ˜‰
Thanks re. Star, my kitty πŸ˜€
      Big hug. Ralph xox πŸ˜€

  11. God bless your sense of humor! And hey, I want to be a SEAL who knows how to knit too! πŸ˜€

And about the comments, I also hate when I have to fill in a form in order to make a comment. What’s worse about it, is that I actually fill it in and usually I still can’t make a comment! Now that’s frustrating!

    • I wanna see you become a knitting SEAL Julita !! That would make my day !!
I run a mile when I see those comment forms as I had the same experiences as you in the past. Have a lovely evening. Ralph xox πŸ˜€

  12. Ralph, I was a SEAL once. And yes, I could knit too. πŸ˜‰ My gravatar profile had nothing on it for a long time because I never signed up for gravatar and din’t know I even had a profile there. I was slightly upset when I realized my wordpress photo was linked there and not to my blog. I tried to find a way to delete the profile page, but if there is a way, I never found it. So I added all my info to the gravatar page. Now it annoys me when I go to someone else’s profile and find nothing. I wonder how many people I annoyed with my blank one. LOL. Maybe WordPress should have a huge sign telling people to fill out their gravatar profiles. Or maybe they should just shoot the info there automatically, since they link your wordpress blog photo there. As usual I enjoyed your post and agree completely with your gripes. ((hugs)) Elizabeth

    • No wonder I always find you near a creek my SEAL knitting friend πŸ˜‰ That must be a home from home for you πŸ˜‰ I agree with all that you say especially the automatic linking of the blog to the Gravatar. Brilliant idea !! Well done !! Ralph xox πŸ˜€
