Panic !! Oh No. Not Again !!

It was a beautifully cool, calm night last night. I had just finished answering a reply from Thomas and as I was in a generous mood I decided to make a donation to his theatre in New York. All went well getting into PayPal. I made my donation and up came something like “Unable to comply, please put some money in your bank account”

Panic !!

Something was drastically wrong. I had loads of money in my account. Had it been stolen ?? My thoughts rushed back to the Guardia Civil virus and Nigerian con men.

Panic 1

It was well after midnight. I needed to contact my bank to check my account. Is someone living it up in Ghana ? Driving new cars that I had just paid for ? Thoughts rattled around in my head. I don’t keep bank details on my computer.Β  Maybe an email to my bank was intercepted. Maybe someone got my credit card number.

OMG. My bank account is empty !!

9 am this morning was when I phoned my bank. I explained what happened with PayPal and to my surprise and utter delight all my money was where it should be, tucked up safely in my bank.

Whew !!

It seems that this happens a lot with PayPal. Some monkey gets great delight in frightening the moths out of my wallet and scaring me to death.

Panic 2

Have you had a “panic” experience ??

    • Hi Frank. I just reread your story of the lost credit card. How annoying that must have been for you. I hope your new card is nailed to your wallet. Take care (of this card. hehe !!) Ralph πŸ˜€

  1. YES!! But the ick and the flash-back that occurred at your writing dissolved into guffaws at the cartoon monkeys! I needed to laugh, today is a bumpy day with Z, learning differences and…just about anything else. I am OOOHHHmmming into a fresh cup of tea, sniffing baby rain and ahhhhhh silence of no fans–it’s cooler today. Kisses your forehead…

    • I am so pleased that this post brightened up your day somewhat Elisa. Just hope it stays bright. Ralph xox πŸ˜€

  2. Oh yes…I’ve had a panic…and at the hands of paypal, too. Only difference is my story didn’t have a happy ending!
This all started in 2008 when I was selling antique glassware on ebay and using paypal to receive my payments. Somehow several deposits were mis-creditted to my account and being an honest person I alerted paypal to to this fact. Let’s just say no good deed goes unpunished! The result was being locked out of my paypal account for 90 days, while they investigated. I had no access to the money legally paid my customers AND no way for new buyers to pay me while the investigation was ongoing! Basically this shut my business down completely!
After the investigation was over, I took my money out of paypal and never used that service again for anything!

    • Your story really shows us how these big money companies are so uncaring, careless with money and totally focussed on themselves. If I was PayPal I would have thanked you for your honesty Karen, sent you flowers by Interflora and made sure that your business was unaffected by the enquiries and errors made. But no !! They have lost an honest client and probably a lot more clients who read or know your story and are having second thoughts about using PayPal as a business “partner”.

I hope whatever you are doing now is prosperous. Ralph xox πŸ˜€

  3. Oh, I would freak out, too! I have barely enough to cover my bills, may have to work forever, so it is important to be able to count on my bank! This was a funny but also stressful post!

    • I feel the same as you Robin. To count on and trust ones bank. I would be in deep doo-doo if the bank either slammed its door shut and took all my money, or here in Spain, Government Agencies do freeze bank accounts if taxes, fines, whatever are not paid until they are paid and that takes time. Most people don’t realise the power the financial and government institutions have especially on the small people. I wish you well my friend and hope you get a decent pay rise so that you can relax a little. Ralph xox πŸ˜€

  4. First off, thanks for the attempt in helping my theater πŸ™‚ also… that is intense.

I’ve had a panic situation once; it was when I was really young and the doctor told me I might have a brain tumor. They took some tests and it wasn’t until two weeks later (Because why rush something life-changing) that they told me it wasn’t a tumor, it was something else less dangerous. I was panicking for about 12 days. On the 13th day I wrote out a bucket list, on the 14th day they told me the good news, on the 15th day I started on my bucket list and completed almost everything since then.

Ah, the fear and joy of dealing with something you have no control over then taking control!

    • Hey Thomas. Welcome πŸ˜€
OMG. How awful for the young you. No wonder you made a bucket list !! I am so pleased that it was benign and that you have almost completed your list. As I said I will try PayPal again over the weekend when I’m a bit calmer and the moths have returned to my wallet πŸ˜‰ Ralph πŸ˜€

      • I am so sorry Thomas. I have tried many times to make a donation but PayPal is not accepting that I have funds. Yet I received this email from PayPal today:

“Congratulations! Successfully confirmed your card, so that has eliminated the sending and withdrawal limits. Now you can send and withdraw unlimited funds from your PayPal account.
Note that there is a minimum withdrawal amount. For more information, go to ….”

        STUPID IDIOTS !!! I give up !!

  5. Oh, Ralph. I’m glad your money is tucked away safely! Whatever happened, let’s just hope it was just a glitch or maybe it was those crazy monkeys. I’ve had a few mishaps with the bank, but only small things. Once I had an extra $2500 in my account. Unfortunately, that was a mistake and it was reversed. Whaa! – Amy xo

    • Waahah !! How could the bank do that to my friend. Raise your hopes then dash them to pieces due to the bank’s error. Definitely monkey’s work !!
Have a lovely trouble free weekend Amy. Ralph xox πŸ˜€

  6. I had once the fraud department sorting out my Β£ 3000 I had alledgedly spend on my credit card…. wasn’t me… they were brilliant and I got it all new, and now my account is more protected than Fort Knox. Glad they were on the ball before I even noticed. That is a good fraud department, I say! It still doesn’t deter me from on line banking! I love it, just never trust any emails regarding your bank. They are a scam as much as the Nigerian lovers! I never had a problem with paypal though!
    Glad your money is safe!

    • That was really good news that your money was replaced and that your account is flagged for any future unusual transactions. You’ll have to pop over to Fort Knox to make sure that your gold hasn’t rusted πŸ˜‰
My bank has given me a daily limit cash withdrawal of €300 and I can only shop for €600 per day unless I notify them of any higher amount I need that day. So I am pretty much protected from any large amounts taken out of my account without my or the bank’s permission.
Have a lovely relaxing weekend Ute my friend. Ralph xox πŸ˜€

  7. Certainly, I have such experience before. It is not a good feeling for sure πŸ™‚ I am glad to hear that every thing is all right where it should be πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

  8. I was on my way to mothers funeral my car full of family, all of course emotionally charged when suddenly my car of only two years and nine thousand miles decides to die on the highway. Calling a tow service to take to closest dealer and piling into other attendees vehicles, off the driver went with my credit card number and we went to funeral then cemetery. I left there went to where car had been towed authorized repair and payment of a small but pricey computer chip. Life was well until I received my statement from Mastercard and six thousand dollars had been charged to porn sites .Took forever to straighten out , turns out when I gave the tow driver my number he decided it was free rein with my credit card. I panicked as my hubs had told me never just give the number always have it scanned and signed for every transaction. Hope all is well in your world Ralph God Bless.

    • Hi Len. How awful for you, at least it was straightened out in the end. I hope the driver of the tow truck was prosecuted.
I try as much as I can to pay by cash. Nowadays I have found that cash purchases can get me sizeable discounts in some small shops. πŸ˜€
I’m fine thanks Len. I hope you are too. Ralph xox πŸ˜€

  9. Wow. That would scare the bejeus out of me. I don’t donate to anythng on line or use on line banking. I am too paranoid to trust all of that.

Anyhoo a shock like that is not good for you. I am wondering if you were able to sleep that night . I know that I would have been pulling my hair out.

    • Normally I don’t use the internet at all, but recently with the apartment renovations I had to and also for donations or charities. Normally I just physically use the ATM / cash point a couple of times a month and that’s it.
I think I slept. I was so tired and anyway my cats tell me off if I’m too late for bed. Have a lovely weekend Yvonne. Ralph xox πŸ˜€

  10. Plenty of scary moments in this life, but not with connection with money … easy rally – have none! After bills and daughter at Uni, on NZ salary … enough said! Even a respectful Nigerian would not take notice of my account!

    Keep Well -:)!

    • Hi Daniela πŸ˜€ Having no money is so much better than owing money. I hope you are paid in real money ….. not sheep πŸ˜‰
I wonder what a disrespectful Nigerian would do ? πŸ˜‰
Chin up, my friend ……. botox works πŸ˜€ Ralph xox πŸ˜€

      • Oh Ralph, you do make me laugh! No they do not send sheep my way each month! And I would hate to think what a disrespectful Nigerian would do!
Yes, chin up/lipstick on all the way! Do I look like I need botox?

      • Of course you don’t need botox my friend. The trouble with me is that I just pick up on what people say and without thinking a quip is typed. Then I get into trouble big time. I feel another panic post coming on πŸ˜‰

  11. I have a text sent to my phone every day, so I don’t have to worry about it. If anything unusual comes up, it’s usually my bad memory forgetting that I wrote a check. I did have a sleepless night in which I checked the emails from a different, business account, and came up with $127 I couldn’t imagine why it was charged. Turned out to be nothing, but I rattled a couple of people’s cages before I found out. Glad your account is safe and sound, and you were able to help Thomas. πŸ™‚

    • That’s great that you rattled the cages of those monkeys. A little sabre rattling wouldn’t go amiss either πŸ˜‰
I have still to help Thomas. I hope to get it done this time.
Have a lovely weekend MVBFM. Ralph xox πŸ˜€

  12. I would have panicked like nuts. I mean, our money is our means of food and shelter – would have been bad indeed.

    • I agree Noeleen my friend that would have been really bad. I hope you are having a lovely weekend. Ralph xox πŸ˜€

  13. A Horror Story and plenty in the comments too. Makes me panic just reading them. 😦 Glad all is okay now. You need your money for that cruise!

    • Hi my friend πŸ˜€ It’s amazing how many different scary stories have arisen from this post. Most of which had a happy ending, thank heavens πŸ˜€
Yes. it’s all okay with me now. I just don’t want or need any more panics. Happy Saturday Gallivanta. Ralph xox πŸ˜€

  14. Yikes! But – glad all is well with your account. Never click on links like that or reply to such messages. Always contact the bank directly. Scammers are such %*(&(&*$#!
There have been several scam attempts on my credit card. This year it happened twice – recently. Thankfully – we didn’t have to pay for the amount scammed. But – in the long run – we all end up paying. Just messed up how some people use their smarts on scamming & the such rather than for good. What a waste.
    xx Saludos y Abrazos xx

    • Mucho yikes RoSy !! πŸ˜€ These scammers think they are so clever but it will come back on them big time. I believe that by staying loving and caring reaps so many more benefits. Hugs and kisses. Ralph xox πŸ˜€

  15. Wow…really, my friend? You are really going to make my heart stop with all these nerve-wrecking posts…well, thank God all your money is still save and sound…

    Have a wonderful weekend ahead…Cheers!! πŸ˜€

    • Hello again Wendy, my friend πŸ˜€ I know !! I’ve got to get rid of this streak of panic posts. They are wearing me down. I have an idea for something completely different for my next post ……. unless another panic situation happens πŸ˜‰ And you ref the weekend. Ralph xox πŸ˜€

      • My fingers are already crossed (very tightly), my friend…a post of serenity, if not humour next time…hehhe…

Have a safe and wonderful Sunday ahead, always~ Cheers!! πŸ˜€

      • I hope my next post will cover all the points you raise …. at least I’m not panicking next time πŸ˜‰ xox

      • ヽ(Β΄β–½`)/ YAY…just finished reading the latest one! ヽ(Β΄β–½`)/

        Love it…Cheers!! πŸ˜€

  16. Ralph, I’m so glad that your story had a happy ending. πŸ™‚ I love the monkeys. πŸ™‚

    Blessings ~ Wendy

    • Hi Wendy πŸ˜€ (I have a sudden influx of Wendys πŸ˜‰ )
I am glad as well. It would have been very difficult if the outcome was any other way.
I am so pleased that you love the monkeys. Take them all !! There’s a few in PayPal and I know of one in my Firefox browser. WP has a few as well. Please send me one of your lovely photos of them πŸ˜‰
      Take care. Ralph xox πŸ˜€

  17. I occasionally, not often, feel I am on the verge of losing one of my students (not literally). This is a real panic attack situation for me. You know the saying, once you lose them, you’ve lost them. .. So far, though the semester has only started, my students seem to be all there…;)

    • That’s great news Alana πŸ˜€ I am so pleased that all your students seem to be all there. Physically or mentally ?? πŸ˜‰
Have a lovely weekend my friend. Ralph xox πŸ˜€

  18. This have had to be a terrible moment when you noticed this I really can imagine πŸ™‚ ! I also have PayPal, hoping that it never happens to me ! πŸ™‚

  19. Since the banking system is just pure control and robbery, it’s no surprise you suddenly find no money on your rich account… I can only imagine the speed of your heart when your account showed a round amount of zero euros…

    • Yes. Zero euros equals zero heartbeat !! My cats brought me around πŸ˜‰ Ralph xox πŸ˜€
