Party & Police

Goodness knows how she did it. While taking these slideshow photos Hilda pressed goodness knows what on my camera. Software codes came up on the screen and the camera seized up. When I was setting up the photos for this post I found my first ever photo which I took years ago and should have been erased.

separatorGuardia Civil Spanish Police

Guardia Civil Ransomware
Guardia Civil Ransomware

Over the weekend while blogging and googling,Β  up popped this page seizing my laptop. It frightened the life out of me as it was a Guardia Civil page demanding €100 as it said I entered a banned website. Firstly I knew I didn’t and secondly I suspected this page to be false for if I had done something wrong there would be 100 police in riot gear at 5am taking away my equipment and me, not a simple demand for money.

Panic !!

Oh heck !! Am I now an unjustly accused criminal ? I unsiezed my laptop, cleaned it and immediately emailed the Guardia Civil Police who replied and told me that it was a virus called Ransomware and instructed me in how to get rid of the virus. On googling RansomwareΒ  there are similar ransom demands from the FBI and others.

Whew. I am back to being the Angel I always was πŸ˜‰

If it happens to you DON’T pay up.

I live in a sleepy railway village in the mountains of southern Spain where nothing happens. Wrong !!!

I am definitely not bored. Are you ??

  1. I hope you did not send them the money. If the police know about this I am wondering why they don’t take care of the place now. Seems like all are well. Cleaning out virus can be tricky, I hope you use reputable tool.

    Party looks fun…

    • Hi YC. No money was sent and I agree with you that the site should be taken down and those responsible arrested. I have Malwarebytes Anti-malware in conjunction with Microsoft Security Essentials as virus, trojan etc cleaners. There are a lot of nasty malware on the internet and you never know when something like this Guardia Civil page hits you.

The party was fun and I am still recovering πŸ˜‰ Ralph xox πŸ˜€

  2. Getting shocks one after another…how can you possibly be bored, right? Hehehe…

Thank you for sharing this so that we will know what not-to-do when they decided to blackmail our laptop…**touch wood**

Despite all those shocks, do have a wonderful day ahead, my friend! Cheers~ πŸ˜€

    • I hope that’s the last of shocks for a long time Wendy ….. I am becoming quite shock resistant after the last few weeks of shocks πŸ˜‰ Have a lovely day yourself M’lady. Ralph xox πŸ˜€

      • I guess enough is enough, the next shock that you are going to receive is definitely going to be a pleasant one!!

My fingers are always crossed for you, my friend!!

Have a wonderful day ahead, always~ Cheers!! πŸ˜€

  3. Well the audacity of crooks never ceases to amaze me. Anyone in the right mind would not pay the police via the computer. Also the fact remains that one must be arrested for a crime and you also must go to court before you ante up. Over here in the states traffic fines are paid in a special place or by sending money through the mail. Not exactly sure of how that works since I’ve had two speeding tickets many years ago. Knock on wood.

Anyhoo… the slide show is a good one. Most enjoyable as I see that a good time was had by all. Even in your sleepy part of the world there is always somethihng to blog about and I do enjoy your posts. Plus the “jewels” that you send via email. They all keep my laughing. Yvonne xox

    • It looked so real Yvonne. The page contained a photograph of me from my laptop camera, my WIFI provider and IP address. Someone spent a lot of time being a criminal instead of doing something useful.
Yes. we all had a good time and I’m glad you enjoy the “jewels. Have a lovely day my friend. Ralph xox πŸ˜€

  4. Lovely to see photos of all the friends I know, nice to see them all celebrating and smiling again. Shouldn’t your antivirus have taken care of this virus, you might need to upgrade that to be save. Just a thought!

    • I passed on your greetings and all had a good word to say about you Ute. πŸ˜€
I only had Microsoft Security Essentials at the time. It was such a rigmarole to clean the laptop the way the police instructed. David suggested that I download Malwarebytes which I did but that found nothing of any significance. So I reckon my laptop is clean now and I am innocent. πŸ™‚ Ralph xox πŸ˜€

    • So I’m a sinking ship now my friend !! Got your bucket ? πŸ˜‰ Ralph xox πŸ˜€

      • Dear Lisa. Dear Lisa.

Then mend it dear Katie. Dear Katie, mend it πŸ˜‰

      • But I have no water; I will have to use my head. This could take awhile. You best behave and not hack any secure sites for now. πŸ˜‰

      • I can wait. You know me I can’t behave πŸ˜€ How are you doing with your head ?

      • Even so, the bucket made a lovely hat for you Katie. Very fetching. Should look great on the front cover of Vogue magazine πŸ˜‰ Have you ever thought of being a model ?

    • Hi Beth. Mucho uber !! Too mucho uber !! Today is not exciting …. yet … as I’ve only just got up. Let’s see what happens …. maybe you’ll come knocking at my door πŸ˜€ Ralph xox πŸ˜€

  5. Friday’s face almost looks human. Or – is it my migraine drugs that have me too woozy to see clearly?
I’ve heard that even though cards are erased – you can still access the erased pics somehow. Not sure how – but – apparently Hilda does…
Buuu… on the scammers. Would be nice if they used their smarts for positive things rather than stealing & being malicious!
    xx Saludos y Abrazos xx

    • Hi RoSy. Friday does have a sweet face. I don’t think it’s your medication. I really do hope that a cure is found for your migraine. I have not heard from Lori (Lapghan blankets) for months. I hope she is okay.

Hilda and electrics/electronics are a no-no. She has a way with wrecking them πŸ˜€ Sorry Hilda if you are reading this.

I agree they should be using their talents for the benefit of mankind, not trying to screw people out of what little money they have.

Have a great day my friend. Ralph xox πŸ˜€

  6. that first picture looks quite magical, and almost spiritual…. r u glad it was not deleted?
do you think some people actually send the Eur 100 to the Guardia civil?… 😦

    • That’s me …… magical and spiritual ….. I am glad it wasn’t deleted …. oh well, back into my bottle πŸ˜‰

I bet people are frightened enough to pay into those criminals bank account. Almost got me for a few seconds. Ralph xox πŸ˜€

  7. That was one hell of a party..full of drinks and laughter. And that was a €100 scare. Glad you didn’t send them bums some money. Thanks for letting us know. You never know where you might land while browsing the internet. Enjoy your dinner..and the next party.

    • I must admit we have good parties here and I am the only single person invited ….. not many expat single females …. well none …. who are available for me.

Browsing the internet is a gamble for getting viruses but this was definitely the worst virus I have ever had.

Have a lovely day Liz. Ralph xox πŸ˜€

  8. My dear friend Ralph,

It is times like these that I’m glad that I work from home. Once again, I read your blog post and burst out laughing.

    Your pal from the States,

    • Then it’s lucky I don’t post too often Nancy or you’ll never get any work done …. Ralph xox πŸ˜€

PS Get back to work my friend !!! πŸ˜€

  9. I’m with Rosy! I’ve often wondered what the digital world would be like if “malicious hackers” used their powers/talents for good vs. evil! Sounds very exciting in your part of the world….but then with you around I would guess things are all ways exciting! πŸ˜‰ xoxo ~

    • Hi Christina πŸ˜€ I agree with you both. I am sure the technology is around to take these people down immediately and when arrested given the choice of jail or using their talents for good.
Oh. It’s really exciting this morning. A chicken clucked !! πŸ˜‰ Ralph xox πŸ˜€

  10. What a shock for you and I`m happy that everything worked out for the best. Love your photo…… I do recognise you, hahaha πŸ™‚ ! Wonderful slideshow, love it that you are always around with some good friends, enjoying life πŸ™‚ !

    • Thank you so much my friend. You always have lovely things to say to me which I really do appreciate, including this comment of yours. Big hug. Ralph xox πŸ˜€

      • Yes but you have to know that I do say these things only to special persons like you not to anyone I know πŸ™‚ Big hug also to you πŸ™‚ !

  11. I was so happy to see that you had a wonderful housewarming party and thank you for saying on one of my recent posts, that you would like me to come to dinner! That would be nice, indeed. I think your home is welcoming, beautiful and has unique features. I like your sense of humor! Thanks for the fun and keep in touch!

    • Thank you so much for your lovely comment Robin. Of course you are welcome to come to dinner as my home is always open to you and my blogging friends. We had a brilliant housewarming party and I think everyone enjoyed themselves. It ended up with brandy being poured over the balcony into the mouths of departing guests in the street 3 floors below. πŸ˜€ Have a lovely day my friend. Ralph xox πŸ˜€

  12. Ralph, I’m reading backwards from your latest post, so I see you’ve been in a panic quite a bit recently. I prescribe a nice calming trip to California for your future enjoyment. I’m afraid we don’t have any balconies from which to pour brandy into the mouths of our dearly departed, though. So when is dinner at your place? I’ll be right over. πŸ™‚

    • Dinner, the evening meal is at 10pm. Bring your own bib πŸ˜‰
Yes, MVBFM, there have been too many panics for my liking. I need a touch of tranquility πŸ˜€ Ralph xox πŸ˜€

      • Hmmm. I have just the thing for you in my new post. What could be more tranquil than a trip to the Oregon coast? Lots of love to you Ralph! πŸ™‚ xox

      • Wait till you read the REST of the STORY! But here’s a hug to give you a tiny bit of tranquility!
