A Very Short Story

She quickly scanned though her Inbox. Nothing. No word. He had gone. Tears again rolled down her cheeks as she stared at her full Inbox of meaningless posts and comments. Where was he ? One moment she was cuddled up with him on the couch stroking his golden hair. The love she felt for him surpassed her understanding as she knew that he only loved her. Then he was gone. Two weeks of emptiness.Β

Talking, emailing, telephoning and texting everyone who knew him responded with a blank. How could he do it ? Desert her in an instant, leaving without a trace ?Β  She curled up on the couch heartbroken, lost and her life a meaningless void.

The wheels of a vehicle scratched it’s way along the gravel drive. Wiping her eyes she looked out of the window at the official looking car and the man in uniform. A moment of dread filled her. No, it can’t be.

Opening the front door she fell to her knees with tears of happiness as he bounded towards her from the city dog pound car.

  1. Love that. All you need now is for the uniformed person to be wearing a flamenco dress. Would be good to be female as well πŸ˜‰

I feel a previous post of mine has the blood rushing to your head. A male in a flamenco dress could be found in Torremolinos, but thankfully not up here in the mountains πŸ˜‰ Take care. Ralph

    • Thank you so much for your lovely comment Yvonne. I really felt that I needed to post something other than builders, documents etc. and I had been thinking about trying a short story as a post to see if I could write one quickly and raw. Stepping out of my comfort zone !! Thank heavens it only took a few minutes to write followed by an immediate Publish.
Have you got your new computer yet ?

      • Got the computer, sent it back to HP and by a stroke of good luck and the genius computer guy he fixed this old thing for about $54. I am so thankful. Actually happy to boot. Your writing ability is quite good. I can not write in that manner. I wish that I possessed that talent. But we can’t all be alike so that is what makes blogging interesting.

  6. Boy my mind is not working. I was sure that the one bounding from the car was the man in the dog-catcher uniform. I had visions of him picking her tearful, tortured self off the floor and smothering her with kisses, telling her how much he had missed her, too, but the internet had been off, and he’d been sent out of state on a dog-catching expedition of a star dog lost from a Hollywood shoot in Spain. So he just had to stop by when he was in her neighborhood as a star dog catcher. Go figure. πŸ™‚

  8. I wonder who really, really read Dostoevsky, Camus, Hemingway and if they did, good for them. A good prop on the shelf, buried.
You are too good, Ralph, They did find me astray, brought me back, fed me who else is worth their kicks and abuses.

      • You two are so much more experts on books and authors than I would ever be. I could never get lost in a book: 1) because I have the attention span of a gold fish. 2) I find I can get lost in real life, not physically but in just watching, listening and imagination. I have only 3 books here, Oxford English Dictionary, Oxford Spanish to English and the local telephone directory. I MUST cut back on my reading material πŸ˜‰
Oh. Thank you both for following me πŸ˜€
