I Lost Star !!

I have just had One of those weekends !!

A bored monkey in Firefox decided to ruin Ralph’s weekend by upgrading my Firefox. Hi Ralph, we have a lovely upgrade for you. Press this and everything will be better but you may lose a few Add-ons. So I pressed this. He he. Got him!! My Firefox browser went mad. My lovely theme disappeared. All those quick links (see picture above) vanished and I had a full screen of blue. Whatever I did. New themes.Β He he. Your old theme won’t work now and the add-ons as well. Time I ate another banana.Β  Add-ons.Β Oh this is fun.Β Blue screen.Β You’ve made my weekend !!Β After a couple of hours trying this, that and the other I went back to Firefox to try another theme and my original lovely one was back for me to use.Β I got to go back to my cage now. Here you go.Β I put my theme back and everything worked.Β Sorry!Β No you are not but I forgive you ….. this once !!

At the same time my baby rescued kitten Star vanished. I searched high and low. Now you know what it’s like when you lose a set of keys. You retrace your steps, pockets, place where you last used them and eventually you find them in the door lock. Star was a set of keys with legs and a mind of her own. She had vanished without a trace. I searched everywhere, in rooms and cupboardsΒ  not opened since the Ice Age. Yes even the fridge and washing machine was looked in to. I peered over the balconies three floors up expecting in horror to find a splattered kitten on the road outΒ  front or in the field out back. But no. Nothing. No Star. Panic !!

And then I heard a ding from an empty terracotta pot.

Star. My little flower
Star. My little flower
Star. My little flower
Star. My little flower

There she was pretending to be a little flower. Relief !! Whew !!

I hit overload this weekend. I type as fast as a snail on a go-slow. A post to write. 40+ blogs to visit. 10 long emails to answer. Firefox throwing a wobbly and Star gone. I exploded. Poof !! Blog Mountain became too steep for me to climb any more. So I had a day or so off, answering and writing the basics and I watched some TV which had been gathering dust since I started blogging. But now I’m back. I am not sure how to approach blogging from now on.

Have you ever reached overload ?

74 Comments on “I Lost Star !!

  1. Well my kind friend, Star is beautiful, all was restored and you my dearest love should just continue blogging anyway your heart delights. Just don’t stop because I would miss you so. Sheri

    • Oh I am not going to stop dear Sheri. I may have to adjust my priorities in blogging. Relax a little and have more fun as I was finding it becoming a chore. A pleasant chore, but more like working in an office. You are so sweet and I could never leave you πŸ˜€ Ralph xox

  2. I think maybe Star was hiding out until the Firefox fiasco blew over. Did Star say “meow?” In feline that means, “Is it safe to come out now?” Just saying.

    • Hi Tim. Maybe I wrote the wrong word when I said “explode”. I never lose my temper. It was more of an instant shut down like an explosion. One moment plodding on as usual then zap!! I couldn’t cope any more. Star has now found a pot spot to meditate and feel secure from the other two cats. πŸ˜€

  3. Thank goodness your precious Star is safe and sound, Ralph. Those pop-up thingimajigs should be avoided at all costs. Sorry you had all this trouble. Hugs to you and Star.

    • Yes. I was so relieved to find her Sylvia. It was actually a genuine Firefox upgrade which did so much damage that’s why I went and pressed the Firefox self-destruct button. Alls well that ends well. Love Ralph xox

  4. I wondered if you were okay. I’m glad you’re back and Star was found. My daughter’s kitty went to sleep in our towels-to-be-washed basket, which is tall much like your terracotta pot. Those sneaky kitties!

    • Yes Rene very sneaky. My mother in the 1950’s used to breed Seal Point Siamese cats and one of the kittens went missing. She was eventually found in the pocket of an outdoor coat which was hanging on a hook on a door with the belt touching the floor. So she must have climbed up the belt and into the nice warm pocket. Very sneaky πŸ˜€ xox

  5. So glad to hear that all is well again and Star is no longer lost, although she probably never felt that way. I do know what you mean about blogging sometimes feeling like a chore. I have backed off from what I was doing and, although I love all the blogs I read, I sometimes feel like I have bitten off more than I can handle. I love being out in nature and find I am spending too much time in front of the computer. I guess we all need to find that balance.

    • Yes. Thank heavens she rang the pot with one of her nails or I would have been outside searching for her. I never even thought of looking in the pot. Duh !!
I am glad that I am not the only one that feels that way. I have to back off from blogging becoming a chore LuAnn. But I am not quite sure how to go about it yet. Hugs. Ralph x

      • If you figure it out could you give me a shout? I am going through this right now and feel the only way to step back is to blog less, which I have recently, or stop following some of my blogs, which it would be difficult to do. I will let you know if I come up with any brilliant ideas.

  6. You make me smile…. a very big smile, Ralph…
I was looking for you yesterday, and couldn’t find you….
I looked here and I looked there; you were nowhere to be seen…
I didn’t think to look in the ’empty’ flower pot though. If I had, I may have found you in there beside Star (what a beautiful flower she makes)…! πŸ˜‰

    • This is one reason why I enjoy blogging Carolyn. The characters and the variety of comments. And you ARE a character that I love. Well, back to my pot. As it’s winter here in Spain I think Star and I will be daffodils πŸ˜‰ xox

  7. Have you been reading William Carlos Williams to Star?

    As the cat
    climbed over
    the top of

    the jamcloset
    first the right

    then the hind
    stepped down

    into the pit of

    • Fantastic Alice. No, I haven’t read this to her but someone must have ! πŸ˜‰ Ralph xox

  8. Glad you found your STAR!
Blogging… I think just go with the flow. If it becomes a chore – it takes away from the fun. I think most of us know that we all have lives outside of this blog-world. πŸ˜‰

    • Hi dear RoSy. I was really happy that I found Star and I will look in the pot first if she does it again. I am now blogging a bit and then do something else and I feel better for it. Hugs. Ralph xox πŸ˜€

  9. I am so happy that you found Star! Did you have one of those ‘parent’ moments when you found her, where you were simultaneously (a bit) angry and overwhelmingly joyous?

How to approach blogging – I’m having a tough time with that one, myself. I find that I reach overload more and more often, although these episodes don’t last nearly as long as the first time I hit blog overload (a few months back now). Some days I just have to remind myself that life goes on regardless of whether I post or not, and the blogosphere is none the worse for my hiatus. It’s my ‘real life’ that suffers if I don’t keep this in mind! It always feels good to get back to the blogosphere, but I have learned to recognize when I need to back off πŸ™‚

You are one of my dearest friends, Ralph, and I miss you when you are ‘gone’ – but I completely understand and I always look forward to seeing you again. Hugs and love to you and dear Star!

    • Oh yes dear Lyann I was so happy to find her. I wasn’t angry just a great sense of relief and I felt a bit silly for worrying when really there was nowhere for her to go. Although I live on the third floor Star has been on the balconies many times and doesn’t go near the edge at all as all she does is her nails on the nearest bit of wood and flop down in a sunny spot.
As I said to other commenters I am mix-and-match blogging now with doing other things instead of long sessions of blogging, until the early hours of the morning most days. I used to hate to have to go to bed because I was enjoying myself so much at the keyboard and there is always something else to do in the blogosphere. Time is meaningless when reading others posts and sometimes whole blogs. I could be in a blog for over an hour if it was interesting to me. I may not comment. My dashboard says that there has been 3156 comments made in Bluefish Way. Usually I answer each one so that means over the 6 months that I have been blogging I have written over 1500 comments in 69 posts. I want to comment on all the blogs I read but I have to draw a line in the sand somewhere. So I only comment in a few blogs.
I am back now Lyann. I may not be so prolific as I once was but I am still here, a stowaway, watching and occasionally contributing to the wealth of blogostopy out there (I like making up words).
You are also a dear friend to me as is your family and friends around you. Although we live thousands of miles apart blogging has brought us together and without which you would have never have become my Starfish Family.
Love and hugs Ralph xox πŸ˜€

  10. You had a wonderful weekend with those entertaining events. I am glad to hear every thing is back to normal – both the fox and my dear Star. Whew.. πŸ™‚

    • Well I wouldn’t quite say wonderful until all the issues were resolved YC. Now is wonderful having read the whew part of your comment. Hugs. Ralph xox

  11. Oh my dear, poor, favorite Ralph,
I see I am not the only one who was worried about you. Doesn’t it make you feel loved that when you have one day of overload, the whole world wonders where you are? You are the perfect embodiment of Where in the World is Waldo, only in your case it’s Ralph. I about had a heart attack when I read that Star was lost on my cell phone email notification! Then when I read the whole post, I sighed a big sigh of relief!!! Here’s the deal, My Favorite Ralph. Have yourself a meltdown once in a while, but never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, leave us!
HELP ME! I see I have become one of those adoring followers that you have so many of. I’ve totally lost my uniqueness that I thought I had in the last post! I’m hopeless! xoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxo I’m glad you’re ok!

    • *blushing*. Why thank you dear Marsha. How can I now leave you after such fine words. You are being so nice to me that I am wondering whether you should change your medication to gin and tonic from white wine then you will be so gloriously insufferable again. A big hug for my unique Marsha πŸ˜€ xox

      • Awwww. You are probably right! I’ve never tried gin and tonic, but white wine – Riesling has a decidedly sweetening effect on me. However, FYI, most of the time I suffer no ill effects from being naturally sweet without the benefit of wine or gin!!! OK that’s a matter of opinion, I know. As for being insufferable – just hang in their Ralph. I go both ways according to those who know me best!!! Poor V. Good thing he loves me, and IS LEARNING/HAS LEARNED to be patient with me after 17 years!!! πŸ™‚ xox to you too πŸ™‚ I always love a big hug from my favorite Ralph πŸ™‚ Sorry I just have to be sweet now!!! I’m on a roll πŸ™‚ Cinnamon, that is πŸ™‚

      • Okay. Okay. Sweet Marsha. I can’t wait for the insufferable to be unleashed again. Take it out on me as I’m only 8,000+ miles away where as V is inches πŸ˜€ xox

    • That is very sweet of you Unconf……… I can’t keep calling you that as it wears my fingers out typing such a long name. Have you any suggestions for me such as Ooobee (UB) or Unba or even Brette or do you have a real name ? But not SusanAliceAnneMichaelaZumbaFlorentina. πŸ˜‰ Hugs Ralph xox

  12. Haha
I had to laugh only because I had a similar issue with my Bast. A few months ago we (my guy & I) lost her. We searched every where, and for a 1 bedroom apartment, it doesn’t take long to look through. The closet, under the couches, in little crevices, her favorite hiding spots, nothing, but every time I looked in the storage room I didn’t see her. My guy was helping me look, following close and rechecking my checked spots and there she was. Tucked tightly under a few boxes and a suitcase. She looked cozy and upset that we found her.
Glad you found your kitten πŸ™‚

    • I’m glad that you found yours as well dear Nym. I had the same look from Star as if she was saying, “This is now MY pot and if you fill it with compost and plant an orange tree I will never sit on your lap and purr ever again. So there !” Big hug. Ralph xox πŸ˜€

  13. Every day, repeatedly! Life on life’s terms doesn’t seem to care particularly if I am having a neurologically impaired moment. BOOM or fzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzt, depending on situation. I did that with a litter of kittens once, and then I plunked down onto the top of them in my bedding and heard mew! I was so upset, I thought I squished them! But no, they just liked to slither up under there, and were not deterred by my end.

    Morning Murphles

    • Wow. Lucky kittens dear Elisa ! My large male Sonic just loves to dive into a cupboard which was only open for a second. 5 minutes later I reopen it after hearing scratching and he gives me that unpublished Helen of Troy look that sank a thousand ships and sort of says, ” What did you do that for? You stupid man!!”. Hugs Ralph πŸ˜€

  14. Star was just playing hide and seek. Just forgot to tell you. 8)
I do, occasionally, just erase emails in bulk to clear the space and my mind. I really enjoy reading several blogs but there is life away from the keyboard and only so many hours in the day. Sometimes I won’t post, sometimes I won’t read, sometimes I just can’t get enough and my fingers stay hovering the keyboard. I think I’ll go hide in a pot now πŸ˜‰

    • Hide and seek. Of course she was Katie. There is not enough room in our pot as Star and I are daffodils πŸ˜‰
Maybe a mass deletion is the answer, but I like to return the compliment of someone who as liked or commented but that takes a lot of time to return the favour. Thanks for your comment Katie. You may like to see this video. I was brought up watching this ……. had no effect on me at all ….. hmmm ! Hugs. Ralph xox πŸ˜€

  15. I did the same with IE, lost all my saved and pre logged things. Glad you found Star. she looks cute in that picture

    • Hi Ella. I lost the bottom half of the list of widgets in my dashboard once. They just seized up. I made my complaint in the WP forum and after 4 days WP fixed it and the problem was my IE not WP. So I changed to Firefox as recommended by all the WP geeks. I am glad I found Star too. Hope they are fixing you up Ella. Hugs. Ralph xox πŸ˜€

  16. Ralph, so glad Star is found, it must have worried you.Poor little silly thing! As I can see that it is not only you being overwhelmed with blogging sometimes, and yes we all have outside blogging lives or even jobs in between. It is amazing how some people manage. I do love my blogging too, but it does not need to take over life. So have a cup of tea before you answer…:-)Take it easy and don’t feel obliged to do too much. We love you dearly and are happy to see any new post with your humour from you any time.
On the other hand I think you got the wrong update… You thought it was firefox but I bet it was Icetiger, and you didn’t notice, so it messed everything up….I heard bad things about Icetiger, so beware!!!!

    • Hi Ute, I may be a poor silly little thing to some people …..oh……Star is the silly little thing ! Silly me ! Even though I am retired I do have a life as well …… sometimes !! Tomorrow is the Boy’s Day Out . Every Thursday David and I escape the scream of the vacuum cleaner when two women attack his house with duster and gusto for two hours of feminine mania. Meanwhile we will calmly sit in a Spanish Cafe drinking coffee and talking gently to our friends on nearby tables. David will drop me off at my house and casually enter his to see his exhausted wife gasping on the sofa with duster and spray in hand. What us men have to put up with πŸ˜‰ Hugs. Ralph xox

  17. I’m thinking Star may be looking a little po’d with herself…I’m not sure the terracotta planter was her first choice…but you know how it goes…be encouraged!

btw…thanks for the like on my blog…you are welcome back anytime…especially since you have a rescue…we have 5 (2 dogs/3 cats)…we refer to them as the Gang of 5.

    • Hi Stephen and welcome. Gang of 5. A good name for your pets. I hope that they are not living up to their name! I shall definitely return as soon as I am able. Take care. Ralph

      • Ralph, you wouldn’t believe their behaviour…while they love us deeply they are on a constant search for new and unusual experiences…except for Jake, who only wants Mom to love on him, then all is well in the world…You are, of course welcome to visit any time…always glad to have you…be encouraged!

      • Your Gang of 5 are great fun and I will visit as soon as I am able. Not tonight though as it’s 02:55 hours here. πŸ˜€

  18. Looks like you have taken to growing cats in pots -:)! One wonders what comes next …!

    • I have some ideas dear Daniela, but I’m keeping them in the “Top Secret Files Never To Be Posted” briefcase, locked in the safe, in a strongroom, in my Bluefish Way bank under the tight security of my new guard Star. πŸ˜‰ Hugs to you my friend. Ralph xox

  19. Glad Star was found! Blogging – mmmmm – v time consuming. Need to be v good at time management, engage but also WRITE. Not blog!

    • This moment is the reason why I just love blogging. To have a member of Journalism’s Royalty to comment here is amazing.
Lyndsey, if I had known that you were coming I would have polished my widgets, dusted my tags and written something half decent for your visit. I didn’t even hear the helicopter landing πŸ˜‰
I will take to heart what you have just said. Write!! My mind has now gone totally blank with the realisation that somewhere between my ears could be….. dare I say it …. a book !!
Star is safe on my lap and says thanks for your concern. Big hug. Ralph xox πŸ˜€

    • Hi Russel. Thanks for your comment. I was going to say welcome to a member of the Photographic Royalty, but I dare not, for if Marsha reads this neither of us would hear the last of it from her. But it’s the thought that counts. Take care. Ralph

  20. Wow meltdown indeed. I often have them, but not about pet anymore – my current environment wouldn’t be fair on a pet. But those evil techno monkeys, that screw around with my software, web browsers, word software and paypal often raise their heads – that’s when i experience my meltdowns. Love tech, hate evil techno monkeys disturbing it.

    • Hi Sherrah and welcome. Hopefully last weekend was my first and last meltdown. I feel pretty much the same as you as far as technology is concerned. I am all for more user friendly computers but I wish they could come up with more user friendly problem solvers. I am a happy bunny today as everything is working as it should…… should …..should…. shoul… πŸ˜‰ Take care. Ralph

  21. Hi Ralph, A quickie here (lol). You deserve your followers and the comments they leave. You are wonderfully and refreshingly interactive and so my friend as a result I predict an even larger following with even more loyal followers, which of course means more potential overload. The good news, you’ll figure out a way to cope. Your nature, I think, like your little friend star, to always land on your feet, and if for some reason you don’t, there will be friends out there to help you back up, friends like … welll … me! Take care, busy friend of mine! With much affection, Penny xx

    • As you are my own personal prophetess and can see into my blogging future, (I’ll cross your palm with a silver comment later), I AM going to HAVE to figure out a way to cope. So Penny, what do your magic widgets say about my coping with the extra workload? Your English friend in Spain. Ralph xox

      • I’m working on that even as I write this to you Ralph, just as soon as I have it figured out, you’ll be the first to know, in the mean time, just keep doing the voodoo that you do so well! πŸ™‚ xx

  22. I know pretty well what you mean! Although I wasn’t aware I was overloaded. My computer decided for me to take a few WEEK break, and I must say, first unhappy, I enjoyed it much! Problem is, I miss my blog friends but also don’t feel I want to start ” dancing” with my computer again… For now I’m taking baby steps, visiting my favorite bloggers once in a while. I promised myself though to wipe the dust off my own blog as soon as possible! It’s been loong….

Have a lovely day, dear Ralph!:)

    • When I returned from my day out today I saw this comment of yours Julita and instead of answering your comment straight away like I used to and leaving proper emails to pile up and stress me out, I answer the emails first as they are the hardest and take so much more time. Then I can relax more and blog at will. So it’s late at night here and I feel free to do what I want when I want. So as you see I am learning to take it easier and have fun.
I did come over and visit your blog a few times in case my notifier missed you but it’s quiet in there and you have just explained why. You are also having a major change in direction I feel. So maybe that’s another reason why you haven’t posted recently. Anyway. Have fun. I am beginning to enjoy it again. A big seasonal hug my friend. Ralph xox πŸ˜€

  23. Thanks for visiting my blog. After reading your post I really thought you would be too overloaded to tackle any of my posts. But I am glad you did. It is tricky trying to manage the” load” and I only have a small one compared to you!

    • Hi G. My I also repay the compliment of you visiting my blog and liking so many posts. Sometimes I wished that my “load” was small but I do enjoy writing comments, so I have to reorganise the way I blog. I think I have found a solution, but the test of time will tell. Big hug. Ralph xox

  24. Greetings Ralph. Glad Star was found right at home, playing a little hidaway game. I have had overload, yes. I can get pretty mad at the endless updates the Big Software People foist on us, happy with the present version, or not. Work has been updating almost everything! I keep forgetting all the new passwords needed-does this happen to you sometimes? Often it is broken after I get it and after a long time of fiddling, they announce ooops, it has bugs, please stand by. LIfe in the digital lane, I guess. Thanks for cruising by my new blog.

    • Hello again Sir and welcome. I wish Star had told me of her game and I would have quite happily played along. Updating is usually done quietly behind the scenes but I suppose it depends on what you have on your computer. My way of remembering passwords is simple. I have a USB 16Gb memory stick on which I back up my library and I also have a notepad containing all the sites and passwords on the stick. As I am writing, the new site, username and password I update onto this notepad immediately. I also have another notepad there for bloggers sites and owner’s names as I can’t remember some of them. Take care. Ralph

    • I agree with you 100%. If it ain’t broke why fix it!!! Star is fine LB and I’ve not seen her in the pot again. Take care. Ralph
