Evening Meal

Evening meal

I am really dangerous in the kitchen. The only thing that I can do safely is the washing up. Preparation for cooking requires a lot of cutting with sharp knives. My hands shake so much that I found the best way to cut an onion is to throw it in the air and like a Three Musketeer the onion is cut, dicedΒ  and grated before it lands in a neat pile on the plate.

So with much thought and due to starvation, I have employed a young lady, Toni, to cook a main meal for me every day. The best thing I have ever done. She is a real find, a treasure to keep and a pleasure to know. She has cooked for me for a week now. Every meal has been different, well cooked and wholesome. Thank you Toni. Ralph x

  1. Why thank you Sarin. She is the mother of two children, her husband is unemployed as most young men here are. She is away most days working in a store and now is working for me as well. I have great admiration for her. Take care. Ralph x

  2. Hey it is good to find a man who can and will do the washing up! You know I am rubbish in the kitchen due to other reasons though! πŸ™‚ This meal looks great, you made a good desicion ! Toni is a gem! Enjoy your meal! Ute xx

  3. Well done to you, Ralph; everyone should have a Toni!!!
    I just realised; I’m a Toni….!
    I don’t want a Toni; however if I were a man and could have a Toni; I would…!
Bon AppΓ©tit, Ralph… You are a very lucky man, and you deserve a Toni…! πŸ˜‰

  4. That’s great Ralph. If not for my chef (hubby) – I’d be living off of take-out & microwaveable meals. You know – I went up in flames once in the kitchen – no joke. Glad you were able to find someone to cook your main meal for you. That looks YUMMY!

    • Hi dear RoSy, it looks like you and Ute ought to compare notes and write a burning, best seller, cookbook. I was told by Dr Gonzalez, my 35 year old Spanish consultant, whom I fell in love with for 30 seconds as she ripped open my shirt, that I must eat more, through Debbie my interpreter. I asked the doctor through my interpreter if she would come and cook for me. “I CAN’T SAY THAT !!”, panicked Debbie. “Go on” I said. So she told the doctor what I said and the doctor laughed reducing the doctor/patient relationship to a group of friends laughing and enjoying the rest of the tests. Thank you for your lovely comment RoSy. Hugs Ralph x

    • Danke Wolfgang. Ich habe gerade Ihre Blog, den ich sehr genossen besucht. Have a great weekend. Ralph

  5. Every man should have a Toni. My husband got a LuAnn instead but lucky for him she loves to cook. πŸ™‚

  6. Dear Ralph,
When I am not sitting on my glasses, I can see pretty well , and cook even better! I have two sites on wordpress that involve menu/meal planning and cooking–even college students can do it! Lots of it is cheap and nutrient dense–oh and YUMMY! I’ll link you up after first things first, if you wish?!

    • Hello Elisa. I wish I could cook. I used to be able to, but now I am a Ninja Chef. Highly dangerous and deadly in the kitchen πŸ˜‰ So your links would be no benefit to me, but thank you for your kind offer. Love Ralph x

      • Wooo hooo!!! Found nasty frames that old lenses fit into! No more half a quart of garlic on the walls and ceiling now, though I could hurl things and you could swipe with ninja knife skills!

  7. You like to iron too?!! You can use an iron to make a grilled cheese.
    Enjoy your lovely meals. 8)

    • Brilliant Katie. You are always thinking outside of the box. I could steam vegetables or fill the reservoir in the iron with wine and as soon as it steams pour it out for a nice hot wine drink πŸ˜€

  8. Let me say that sounds like money well spent! So very happy for you, Ralph – ENJOY every morsel!

    • Yes, sea bream, a bit bony but very tasty and it lasted for two meals as there was so much πŸ˜€ Ralph

  9. I’m happy that you have someone who cooks for you that was really a good idea of you and also a person who know what cooking is watching the delicious potatoes and fish !

    • Toni

Hi Shiro. Toni has been cooking a variety of three course meals for me every day for three months. I have a lot of respect for her, for on top of the cooking she does 2 hours cleaning the apartment for me on Sundays, holds down an almost full time job in a butcher’s shop, has an unemployed husband, two young children and a menagerie of animals. What a woman !! I am so lucky to have her living in the apartment below and to be working for me. Take care. Ralph xox

      • Yes you are very lucky to have a person like her and I think TonI is a very special lady, all compliments to her, I wish you a very pleasant evening e buona notte Ralph !

      • I hope you are having a lovely evening as well Shiro. I will pass your compliment on to Toni πŸ˜€
