I used to hate alarm clocks. Another lie in down the pan. A late night, just got to bed, then all hell breaks loose at usually an ungodly hour in the morning. The bells shattering my blissful dream. The clamor of the ringing of metal against metal warns me that the warmth between the sheets is about to be lost for another early morning to get up for work. Half asleep, reaching over to the bedside table to find the elusive slider tucked away somewhere on the back of the clock. The clapper smashing against the brass domes just will not stop until I find that switch. In the end I have to find the light switch of the bedside table lamp, reach for the clock, pick it up and push the slider resulting in tranquility, peace and the desire to lie back down, close my eyes and go back to sleep. For a few seconds I do just that. Feeling myself drifting off, thinking of the dream I had left behind a few moments ago. Oh heck. Pushing back the bed clothes I prepare for another day at the grindstone.
But nowadays I am retired so there is no need to use my alarm clock any more. Dream on!! This morning I had to get up at 7am as I had arranged an appointment at 11am with my assistant bank manager whose bank was a two hour drive away down the mountains, along the Autovia/motorway/interstate to another town on the Costa del Sol, Spain.
Fast asleep. Sonic my black cat was in bed with me, his front paws warm in the cup of my hand, his back against my chest. Samantha. Well, she loves to curl up on the top of the bed in her usual nest she makes between my legs. I can’t move!! Fast asleep. All hell breaks loose. The alarm bells scream to me to wake up. Within half a second Sonic flies over my face and out into the darkness of the rest of the house. Samantha dives under the bed until the deafening clangor stops. I switch off the alarm bells and the cats jump back on to the top of the bed as I prepare myself to get up.
Do I need the alarm clock again? Yes. Monday morning. Nurse Olga is taking some blood from me at 08:15. 08:15!!!!! Oh heck. And I thought I was retired. Sonic and Samantha have no idea of what is about to happen them on Monday morning. Early!!!
